Hello GFY I have not posted in a long time... I have a friend that is interested in starting a adult website. What advice would you give to someone, that would want to start a new adult website. ANY advice would be helpful. thanks!!

Thanks, so what should he do, if he wants to make money in "adult" websites??

Join a good converting affiliate program

Or perhaps buy a website that's already setup with traffic and sales, he can use his newbie enthusiasm to breathe life into it

He's right -- finding good converting sponsors, couple that with paypersale (pps) linking option and your friend will make money in porn a lot faster, and with less headache, than trying to start up a brand new membership site. A membership site ( a good one ) is easily several thousand dollars to get up and running properly. Porn truly isn't a "build it and they will come" answer to financial woes. Not in this economy anyway. 5 to 10 years ago, yes, it was crazy insane profitable. (hence the time machine comments).

Have your friend look into marketing adult material via a blog, or a hubsite, tube site submissions and thumbnail gallery (tgp) submissions. There's also the AEN (Adult Entertainment Network aka AVS) sites that are quick to build and get submitted to places like http://Mancheck.com or http://adultcheck.com. There's a few more around, just hit the resource sites or g**gle for AVS or AEN.

Your friend will be best served by having a domain name and a small bit of Adult OK hosting of his (her) own, but free hosting for adult projects is available. And he best study up very quickly on the 2257 Regulations if he is a United States citizen.

You didn't make it clear what sort of "adult site" your friend wanted to start - that's why the advice so far is a bit general. I would agree with Bec though that he (or she - oops :)) should learn the ropes by promoting other people's sites before investing any money in their own membership sites if that's the way they want to go.
The adult business is like any mainstream business in it's core fundamentals - you need to know a fair bit about it before trying to go it alone. You wouldn't start your own plumbing business before you'd ever learnt to fit a tap now would you?
Treat the adult business the same way. Learn about how to generate traffic, convert into sales, etc . . so I think some simple blogs would be a good way to start - don't expect to make fortunes, just use it as a learning curve for now. :thumbsup

Focus on thinking about how to get more traffic to your site and how to make people click more things on your site.

get a good, easy to use CMS to run your site - makes your life easy

a lot of people have been told that its too late and that only if you can go back in time etc. It really depends on you and how much you have to start with, as well as how much you know and can do.

Lifer 10-24-2010 01:35 AM

buy an existing pay site... or join a lot of sponsors and do affiliate work

rastan 10-24-2010 04:17 PM

.... and volume works.... remember that you have to sometimes throw a fair bit of mud at a wall before something sticks! If you're affiliating, run as many blogs as you can promote and maintain.

Also remember while that EVERYONE will tell you content is king, well his Queen is traffic, and you need to keep that woman happy! 8)

What you said above is awesome :)

Im a newbie and have only been at it a couple years - I agree 100 perceny with the above - I found out more things that dont work then actual things that worked really good - To add to the advice Id suggest a site meter of some sort - Also make porn a hobby till you figure it out - Its way more fun then the money your going to make :)
