Senate: No more loud fucking commercials

The Senate unanimously passed a bill late Wednesday to require television stations and cable companies to keep commercials at the same volume as the programs they interrupt.

Buy a "Audio Compressor" about $100 - problem solved:2 cents:

Great...now all the unemployed can finally get jobs!

Nevermind.

onwebcam 09-30-2010 08:05 PM

What would we do without them?

iMind 09-30-2010 08:07 PM

Well maybe not a major law, but certainly one I can get behind... I fucking hate that shit so much it's unreal.

Lately its been worse than ever, Can barely hear a television show yet the commercials are so loud you feel like you're losing your fucking mind to find the controller.

Martin 09-30-2010 08:07 PM

America, Fuck Yeah!

epitome 09-30-2010 08:08 PM

Meanwhile, Congress refuses to vote on anything important until after the elections.

+1 .......................

DaddyHalbucks 09-30-2010 08:22 PM

Woohoo, our Congress passed a law about loud commercials, but failed to pass a budget. What a bunch of corrupt, dishonest, incompetent assholes!

rogueteens 09-30-2010 08:24 PM

i wish we had that law here.

BSleazy 09-30-2010 08:25 PM

The sound for shows on TNT has always been lower than every other channel but their commercials are fucking loud. So annoying.

Dcat 09-30-2010 08:26 PM

The loud commercials were making it just too hard for them to listen in on you via your cell phone and the mic connected to your computer. They had to do something about that. They did. :2 cents:

+1 for big brother

Major (Tom) 09-30-2010 09:07 PM

This seems like something new. I don't recall commercials ever being that loud until the last year or so.

Figures you wouldn't be happy even when they do something positive that pretty much everyone agrees on.

Elli 09-30-2010 09:58 PM

I thought they passed something like this years ago but it wasn't obeyed or enforced?

His point is valid. They are sitting on a lot of important issues right now because they don't want to face voter backlash during elections. Pretty shitty, they should have done the important stuff early on in the year if they were that concerned.

I'm sure everything will iron out, but politics is politics. Fuck them all.

Commercials? Those things I skip with TIVO?

Let me guess, the bill was passed with 2 billion in pork spending on protecting the indigenous Cracker moth of a South Dakota swamp?

Most likely... along with a hidden paragraph that gives them all a 50% raise next year if they ever agree on a bill with 100% approval. The only way those knuckle heads could agree on something unanimously is if they were all putting a little something into their back pockets.
:2 cents:

The Duck 10-01-2010 07:57 AM

What an important issue to resolve..

XSV 10-01-2010 08:00 AM

OK, this makes more sense, it will probably never happen...

"The Senate unanimously passed a bill late Wednesday to require television stations and cable companies to keep commercials at the same volume as the programs they interrupt.
The House has passed similar legislation. Before it can become law, minor differences between the two versions have to be worked out when Congress returns to Washington after the Nov. 2 election."

Which means by next year commercials will actually be louder than they are now.

....plus Tivo will be illegal and fast forwarding past a commercial will be a Class X Felony punishable by a fine not to exceed $5 million dollars and/or 30 years imprisonment. Further all entertainment device manufacturers will be required to prevent the user from being able to adjust the volume or muting during any commercial. :1orglaugh

You obviously do not know what you are talking about sir....

.....there are NO swamps in South Dakota....

Tom_PM 10-01-2010 09:11 AM

I wish they'd pass a law banning political commercials, BP apology commercials, pharmaceutical commercials (or anything that says "ask your doctor"). I flip channels for all 3 of those these days.

MUTE is very handy as well. An hour of TV time can include 20 minutes of quiet time without missing a single moment of the show.

Now lets get the senate to agree that it's a good idea to subpeona the companies responsible for the gulf oil spill.. seems some dont want anyone asking questions. Oh well, at least we have the commercial thing to agree on.

Why the fuck in the world should I spend $100 to stop TV commercials from doubling the sound because they don't want to be creative enough to capture my attention?

well, they must ignore it then as the satellite channels definately have adverts louder than the programmes especially on the Discovery channels

Brujah 10-01-2010 11:36 AM

Let's be real. This isn't a very controversial issue, so naturally it's easier to get it passed and done. There are a great number of issues that are more important but those are always controversial and takes forever due to gridlock and opposition.

That's why something like this can get done, and the important things can't get done.

Another solution would be to throw your TV out the window.

Tom_PM 10-01-2010 11:43 AM

It's just that who would have thought that getting people to testify about the oil spill would meet resistance from anyone but Satan? lol

Main problem is than none of an advert is quiet. Any sounds within one that woudn't be as loud as the rest are boosted up whereas in normal speech or whatever the actual interrupted program contained sound levels fluctuate all the time.

Matyko 10-01-2010 11:51 AM

The loud ads are fucking annoying for sure. Here in Hungary there was some scandal about this because the volume of the ads was normal, but the channels made the non-advertisents less loud, thus you had to turn up the volume... and than came the ads... So its legal here and ppl can do shit against it.

When I was in Romania a few years ago I saw a crazy form of advertisement: in the middle of the films they showed an ad for like 10-15 seconds and than continue the movie. no intro/outro about its an ad, nothing. very efficient but very annoying.

Im surprised the cable companies and satellite providers have not fought this... THEY are the problem. If you notice, most of the time the loud commercials are when the cable company/satellite company runs a local avail, that commercial is louder than the national spots. For example: Joe's Used Cars spots are louder than the Bud Spots.

Im watching the History Channel right now and the Local spots are louder than the national spots.

Vendzilla 10-01-2010 12:03 PM

Next the senate will pass important legislation to give them free commercial time when they run for office, when did they become the overlords of the TV? Oh Yeah, FCC, the guys that want to run the internet, that's who

I don't know much about this, but I doubt it took up many resources or much floor time.

All I can say is about fucking time.

Deej 10-01-2010 01:29 PM

I personally dont have issues with this.

My GF's mom though does and it gets on my nerves when im at her house as she turns the sound completely off when any commercial is on.

To me no sound is far more annoying than loud sound.

Deej 10-01-2010 01:36 PM

Fitty "turn it the fuck down"s!!!!
