North Korea raises spectre of 'Third World War'
Last Updated Fri, 10 Jan 2003 15:00:10 SEOUL - After pulling out of a global treaty that bars it from making nuclear weapons, North Korea sent shock waves around the world Friday as it warned of a "Third World War" should hostilities be directed its way. INDEPTH: North Korea North Korea withdrew from the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Friday, saying that its nuclear program is peaceful ? for now. North Korea reiterated its position Friday that it is prepared to talk to Washington to dampen down the crisis. Pak Gil Yon Pak Gil Yon, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations, told a news conference in New York Friday his country would regard any UN economic sanctions as "a declaration of war." On an optimistic note, Mohamed ElBaradei, chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said, "North Korea has to take the first step. Once that first step is taken there is a lot of light at the tunnel." ElBaradei told reporters in Washington that North Korea "must be assured that they will get something back for good behaviour." This was taken to mean Pyongyang may abandon its nuclear program if economic assistance is forthcoming. Kim Dae-jung South Korea's national security council went into emergency session following the surprise announcement that the country was pulling out of the global nuclear treaty. President Kim Dae-jung described the move as one of "life and death." RELATED STORY: China unlikely to act as go-between for U.S., North Korea The United States said it was not surprised by North Korea's move. John Bolton, the American undersecretary of state for arms control, said the North Koreans weren't respecting the treaty when they were part of it. France has condemned the move, while Britain has called the decision wrong. The withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) was largely symbolic. The U.S. said North Korea admitted in October that it was secretly pursuing nuclear weapons development, in violation of the treaty. North Korea blamed hostile policies by the U.S. for its decision. Some analysts called the announcement a gambit to pressure Washington into agreeing to a non-aggression pact. Pyongyang said the country could no longer be bound by the treaty, saying it allowed the security and dignity of the nation to be infringed upon. The government announcement, carried by the official North Korean news agency, also said the country has no intention of producing nuclear weapons "at this stage." Pyongyang said it would pursue only peaceful nuclear activities, such as generating electricity. The announcement Friday battered the yen and stock prices fell in Seoul and Tokyo. |
USA is Controled By Alien.
They need human blood to make drinks |
N Korea would fuck us up pretty swell...think about the children!!!
|
the world is fucked, i don't know how we avoid a nuclear war in the next 10 or 20 years unless the United States is willing to become an isolationist country. Cuz some of these bad actors are going to have to be nuked to understand nobody is going to put up with their bullshit.
it ain't pretty. Cold War looks pretty damn good through the rear view mirror now. |
North Korea are bad ass, they have one fo the biggest Army, because they are surrounded by Russia and China and South Korea, i did some research on them, and half of their Tanks and Helicopter was sold to them by the US isn't this Ironic!

I can kind of see their point though.
I mean if you had some fucking inbred chimp running around the world, toting his bombs, shooting his guns, and arrogantly telling the world 'if you aren't with us you're against us' I would get a little more than a little nervous, and fucking rights I would want some way to insure that if I was the next country on his list so whatever reason, that I would have a pretty fucking big ace up my sleeve to insure that he just didn't come in and turn my country into a black smear |
I would hate to live in Hawaii during this crisis. The islands are goners for sure.

they are safe. "North Korea purchased its first Scud-B from Egypt, reverse- engineered the missile, and then developed subsequent versions, which allowed it to gain expertise in the production and testing of missiles. North Korea has developed several longer-range versions by significantly modifying the basic Scud-B designs. Subsequent versions of the Scud-B had their ranges progressively extended. Also, the development time, from conception to testing, seems to be diminishing with each successive system. According to David Wright of the Union of Concerned Scientists, North Korea's development of the 1,500km Nodong marks the developmental limits of their technology. " |
so is China backing them on all this or they just sitting out?
|
from what I'm seeing on the news, it looks like N Korea is trying to punk us out while we're busy with Iraq....
that's not very cool of them... |

During the cold war weren't there like hundreds of THOUSANDS (or maybe ~100k hehe) nukes made? That seems like a lot of nukes... easy for a few thousand to slip through the cracks. I'm just saying if someone were to ever attack us with nukes, I doubt it would be with just one. :Oh crap |

This may or may not be true, but since this statement came from Rumsfield I refuse to believe it. |
North Korea is pulling the same type of stunts they did about 12 years ago. They act up when we get focused on another region. Like a school brat when the teacher leaves the room.
In 1991, just before the gulf war started, they mobilized their army and nearly invaded South Korea. There were several deep tunnel penetrations through the DMZ. Of course, when they turned on CNN and saw the devastation after our initial strike on Bagdad - they tipped toed back to their normal positions with their heads between their legs. These days their goal is not S Korea. They are using nuclear blackmail to bully the UN to end the sanctions imposed on them. Even though they have a large army, they are simply not a threat. They have a hard enough time just feeding their soldiers much less training them. And no.. we have never sold tanks, planes to N Korea. What newspaper do some of you guys read? TNVEric. |
Where's Bill Clinton when you need him? Dubya is embarassing, there should be IQ tests for Presidents. I know whatever the outcome is down the road we're all gonna regret it. Foolish attempts to get our minds off of Bin Laden and the fucked up economy.

US may not have sold weapons to North Korea, but they definitely sold a lot of weapons to Saddam.
It's also well documented US supported Iraq during Iran vs. Iraq war when it was clear Iraq were using mustard gas on Iranian soldiers fwiw :-) |

That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger." -- Hermann Goering |

People have to understand that world politics relays on a long term strategic plan, like a game of chess. The actions of the USA are directed to insure its people they can make money posting porn on the internet while drinking beer and bitching about how the US acts in world politics. To compare the current US democracy with a communist dictatorship is pure ignorance. Sadam is a dictator who released the prision population of Iraq onto the public. Murders, rapist, and child monsters. Prehaps a citizen of Iraq should go public and compare him to Hitler? Oh thats right you will die for that in Iraq, my bad:winkwink: |

For one, the US is not a democracy, it is a republic. For another, when it comes to war the pulse of the people is manipulated by government propaganda, which is about the only thing the Bush marketing machine has been good at. |
