Just found out I snore like a MOFO, have sleep apnea & sleeptalk!

So the wife tells me that I keep talking in my sleep for the last few weeks, so I set up my nightvision camera and hooked it up to my laptop to record me sleeping all night, and holy fuck. I snore like lumberjack, choke, stop breathing and wake up gasping for air, talk about weird shit & laugh, then wheeze and snore like a cartoon character.

Never knew what went on until I setup the camera, no wonder I wake up and feel like I hadn't slept, and am tired all day with bags under my eyes.

anyone have the same problem and fix it somehow? :helpme

u-Bob 10-04-2010 09:16 AM

so what do you talk about when you're asleep? revealing any big secrets?

ottopottomouse 10-04-2010 09:20 AM

Can't be talking about anything incriminating or you'd be waking up with a black eye.

Cut all aspertame forever now.

People have been telling me I sound like I am dying when I sleep for about 8 years now. Last year before a trip I had slept on a friend's parents couch and in the morning the guy's mom asked me if I knew I had sleep apnea.. I just assume I will die Reggie White style some day, lol. Are you over weight? I am but totally not obese, I sometimes wonder if this is the cause.

I suffered very very bad for years and never realized just how much it effected me in almost
every possible way! To me feeling tired was actually normal. I was barely getting any real
sleep at all. I would fall asleep for a few seconds all day :) trust me it's not fun.

I tried lots and lots of shit to stop, from anti-snoring drugs to pillows etc! But nothing
actually worked.

In the end I had an operation on the back of my throat, now I sleep much much much
better and feel much much better in myself.

If you want i'll find out what exactly the operation was. I know there is a few different ones.

Also, if you're over weight or a smoker then I suggest fixing both of those issues and you
will also sleep much better.

Get well soon man. I feel your pain!

Itchy 10-04-2010 09:29 AM

It can be fixed

Go see a doctor.
Long term apnea can lead to heart problems.

Serge Litehead 10-04-2010 09:32 AM

stop smoking

well last night I sat up with my eyes half open and said "Yes, I understand, that's funny" than I layed down mumbling and laughed for a few seconds.

my wife said last week I kept saying "You dirty dirty dirty girl" which she wasn't thrilled about until I told her I was dreaming of her.. then it was all good :thumbsup

XX_RydeR 10-04-2010 09:38 AM

It can also put strain on your partners sleeping.

Get yourself looked after, trust me it will be the best investment you ever make!

I would never consider surgery, but I am fat now, although my wife said I snored when I was skinny too. Smoking is another issue, but I think it has to do with my allergies which are horrific ATM, just started getting allergy shots hopefully that would help.

The surgery was major? Recover time? What exactly did they do to your throat?

pushing 30lbs over now. :disgust

tical 10-04-2010 09:48 AM

Lose the weight and you have a good chance of getting back to normal. The apnea can be caused because of the resting pressure (weight) on your airway.

Those CPAP masks essentially just give you a hand breathing by giving the air a little push on the way in.

It can do a number on your restorative sleep and lead to all sorts of problems down the road. Walking around like the living dead even when you know you've slept 8 hours is no fun at all.

yeah, I have a weight problem, I gain / lose the weight every couple years, this job is half the problem, sitting here 12 hours a day doesn't help much.

The CPAP mask is just horrible, my wife will never let me live that one down, she already thinks I am a nerd, sleeping in the CPAP would just be the icing on the cake :1orglaugh

go for a sleep study, they will get you a cpap. It's a pain in the ass to wear but it works.
then you will be ok

The surgery was fast, only around 15 minutes! I was awake the whole time.

The hardest part is the recovery actually. I did smoke while I was healing too, probably didn't aid me at all :)

So, to answer your question. No it's not a major surgery or anything it's very quick and
almost painless "the procedure". Recovery was more painful and took a few weeks to a month
for my throat to 100% heal. But I did notice the benefits and continue to now so for me
it's one of the best things I have ever had done.

Whatever you do, do something :) I would never wish this shit on anyone.

JFK 10-04-2010 10:07 AM

I have the same thing, attributed to being overweight:disgust

It's a pain in the ass but when you sleep well for the first time in years you will never leave that machine behind, I rather not sleep than sleep without it :2 cents:

http://catalogohospitalar.com.br/img...pironics_g.jpg

I use this one and guess what:

- no more snoring
- no more wakeup 3 or 4 times to piss in the middle of the night
- no more headache in the morning (just like a motha foka hangover without booze)
- no more pain in the chest
- no more sleepy days
- no more wakingup more tired than when you go to sleep
- stronger and longer erections (well, not really :1orglaugh)

The only thing that I hate is the fucking mask and if you suffer from some kind of rinitis or other stuff related with your nose you will have to take care of it.

Take care of your sleep apnea, it's a serious problem man. :2 cents:

that's quite the endorsement, if I have any longer erection I'd have to goto the ER for priapism :1orglaugh

I do have bad allergies, and I breath through my mouth cause of it as well as a deviated septum, guess I'm just fucked :Oh crap

Sharky 10-04-2010 10:46 AM

Damn. just drop some lbs dude. I was horrible with sleep apnea before. I lost weight and it went away. I gained some back and it's starting to show again.

I found this to be a lot more comfortable than the bulky face masks: http://www.directhomemedical.com/mas...pap-bipap.html Much less leaky too.

CaptainHowdy 10-04-2010 11:07 AM

I only scream while I'm awake...

I have one of those, I can't get used to it, maybe due to rhinitis and sinusitis.

well as long as you don't wake up throwing round house punches, suplexes, camel clutches, or power bombs. While sounding like Randy "Macho Man" Savage

A few weeks, you say. That's around the same time epassporte went down. Coincidence? :winkwink:

Klen 10-04-2010 11:16 AM

That probably happening beacuse you are too obsessed with your work.

same thing with me... breath right strips also help though, just open the nasal passage a bit, kinda expensive if your using one every night though..

think its raising my bloodpressure.. stupid that i never thought of that before..

[O]bstructive sleep apnea more than doubles the risk of stroke in men ...
Not a good harbinger ? Sleep Apnea Increases Stroke Risk ? might be a good idea to reduce other factors (if any) and better the odds maybe. Smoking is a major stroke risk as is high blood pressure (same applies to heart attacks).
