Uwe Gemballa found dead and wrapped in cellophane
The cellophane-wrapped body of Uwe Gemballa has been found in South Africa. Founder of well known German tuning firm Gemballa Automobiletechnik.
While details are limited, police believe Uwe's murder was tied to an illegal money laundering scheme with Czech crime boss Radovan Krejcir. According to testimony, Gemballa and Krejcir had been cahooting on nefarious transactions since 2002 but, in September of last year, problems arose. It appears Gemballa wasn't making payments on time and Krejcir told him, "...you're a dead man." http://www.porschetuningmag.com/wp-c...irage-gt-3.jpg |
It's a shame people get caught up in shady business. Don Aronow who built awesome speed boats got in with the wrong people and it cost him his life and I think it happened to Mickey Thompson as well.
On a side note I've heard that an orange Gemballa Mirage Carrera GT is hiding in a collectors garage just a few miles from me and I've been trying to find a way to photograph it :winkwink: |

I had heard there was only one orange one in the US and it was owned by some Prince that eventually wrecked it so I've been wondering if this guy bought the wrecked one and fixed it up. There is a huge exotic car show ( Festival of Speed ) this weekend here in Orlando and this collector has brought several of his cars in the past so I'm hoping he brings it this time. I do know the new Maclaren MP4-12C, Mercedes SLS AMG and Lexus LFA are going to be there so it won't be a total bust. No matter what shows up I'll be sure to post some pics. :thumbsup |

I saw this on another forum and have no idea as to it's validity.
" The story so far, from what I know is that Uwe was involved with a group of Czech criminals at the time, where they had an operation of smuggling money into South Africa as they were in hiding from the authorities. They smuggled cash into South Africa by hiding large sums of money into Uwe's cars and importing them from Germany or wherever Gemballa was based. Troubles started when a Porsche Cayenne was imported to South Africa with a million Euros hidden in the car, and when it arrived in South Africa, the cash was missing. Uwe and the boss of the Czech gang had a heated row over the missing money and threats were passed across to Uwe. Uwe then made a "business trip" to South Africa in February 2010, thinking it had nothing to do with the Czech syndicate, where he was then subsequently kidnapped by the gang. The last contact he made with the world was with his wife where he asked her to send a million Euros down to South Africa in a lump sum, and after that he was never heard of again until his remains were found a few days ago.
