I think that sneaky article means that adult webmasters are moving paypal into the adult b2b breach.

Once paypal finds out (and given that AVN sneaks rang up paypal head office with the good news) thousands of accounts are going to be frozen.

There is a whole world of difference between someone like Top Bucks paying the odd coder or whatever by Pay Pal and 'not having a problem with it' to using it as an option for a slew of affiliates. I think it will end in tears.

Yes I had my account frozen when buyer put a porn link in the transaction details, Both of our accounts got frozen for breaking thier TOS ..very risky to say the least

I really dont know but I remember years ago i purchased an adult sex toy site from ebay using paypal and the company which was selling the websites did not seem to have any problems with them, and I have also seen a lot of sex toy websites that do still use paypal, but as soon as you mention anything about porn in the transaction details they jump on it very quickly. I guess they dont want to be associated with porn as it such a high risk biz

Paypal sucks and using its service for anything connected with adult is tantamount to financial disaster. The lack of specific definition of "obscene" and "sexually oriented materials or services" says it all. Paypal can and will do whatever it wants and will tell you AFTER it has done it. You will be told when you log into your Paypal account and find that your funds have been refunded or blocked.

I have personally had over $10K locked by Paypal simply because it did not understand the nature of the transaction, which transaction was legal, above board and in compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy. Full explanations and documentation meant nothing to Paypal and it did indeed take 180 days to get my money.

In short, if you use Paypal for adult, you could well be kissing your hard-earned money goodbye or have to wait 180 days to get it.

i am talking about people buying adult videos titles from a variety of big (and small) stores using paypal-

Paypal is not going to freez CD Universe, they have already made it quite clear they are accepting porn dvd sales, and those very porn dvds are chopped up into clips which are placed on websites which they DO NOT accept! :1orglaugh

Exactly and you prove my point that the Aceptable Use Policy is not only vague but is selectively enforced by Paypal based on what parameters we don't know. IMHO, without a very specific change in the Acceptable Use Policy, Paypal will remain a very risky method of accepting payment for any kind of adult product or service.

About 10/15 years ago before they where purchased by eBay they had no problem taking adult payments. As soon as eBay purchased them that all changed.

1)an adult company could SUE to force paypal to let them process their adult site.
i'm no lawyer but there is an obvious basis for discrimination here.

2)whats more insane is that obscenity prosecutions have been largely made for physical DVD sales as opposed to internet websites. they get them for shipping across state lines etc. So what paypal accepts is more likely to be subject to obscenity charges than what they DONT accept:1orglaugh

3)if they accept sales for dvds why dont they accept sales for VOD?? someone please explain the difference with that one? VOD would be actually LESS risky.

Paypal used to do subscriptions for adult sites when they first came out; I mean they were up on the join pages and all. About two months into the program they shut it all down without warning and without explaining their actions.

It is a business...they can "discriminate" on what they process. They cannot discriminate based on race, religion, etc. Last I checked worshiping pussy was not a legitimate religion :winkwink:

As far as them not wanting to be associated with Porn because it would hurt their business...It sure doesn't seem to have tarnished Google's much. I doubt adult will work out long term with them but would like to see it happen. Their system is rock solid and I have used them for years. The fees can be high but it is a convenient and ideal payment form for US webmasters (or whomever else can get their debit card).

my chargebacks are less than .5% and i know that accross the board its similar.

No, it is not discrimination; Paypal can do whatever it wants to do as far as what it processes and what it doesn't. Paypal can have whatever kind of Acceptable Use Policy it wants as long as it does not contravene applicable law or go against public policy.

You, on the other hand, cannot cry "Discrimination!" after you have agreed to the TOS of Paypal, which includes agreeing to the aforementioned Acceptable Use Policy.

I think there is a big difference in PayPal allowing p2p transactions from sponsors to publishers vs. processing porn sites. Someone mentioned adult URLs in the transaction being a problem. I imagine that PayPal's filters catch that (in order to avoid porn subscriptions) so it would be easily avoided by paying out generically. For example, from XYZ Co. to jonnydoe for advertising, traffic, etc. There are some big names that are adopting them and I know they have legal counsel. I doubt they are just throwing darts to find a payment method that sticks.
