The Princess died

Sappy post here..

At the age of 19 years and 4 months (a very good long life) my oldest cat died in my arms this morning. I knew it was coming and that I was faced today with the decision to end her battle with father time, but being the brave soul that she is, she made sure I didn't have to make that decision. She'd lived with partial kidney failure for many years, made it through a major liver disease about 4 years ago, but this week developed pulmonary adema and didn't respond well to medication to relieve it. In the midst of it all she had a major seizure yesterday that she didn't come out of very well. We thought it best to check some bloodwork and give her 12 to 20 hours to revive from the seizure.

As others have said, it's like losing a kid. Heck.. she's older than my oldest kid. Two of my other kitties are 13 and 15. We've battled health problems for all 3 the past 4 months, including liver problems, a feeding tube and exploratory surgery for the real persian kitty, Smokey, who turned around for the better just this week. I'm so glad I'm in a position to give them any care that they need.

So everyone hug your animal babies extra when you get to. There's a new kitty angel to watch over them all.

Peaceful slumber Princess

It's beautiful that you were able to hold her during her transition.

What a nice, long friendship the two of you had.

pr0 01-10-2003 07:03 PM

awww, what a perfect way to part with her :)

421Fill 01-10-2003 07:03 PM

My condolences. :( My g/f had to deal with this 2 years ago. 19 years is a good long life for a kitty, too. :)

Herb Kornfield 01-10-2003 07:03 PM

It's so sad when a loved cat dies...I feel your pain having last my favorite cat years ago...:(

Crow 01-10-2003 07:05 PM

Sorry to hear that PK. I know what a good friend a pet can be. I have a cat and that has been my best freind at times when no one else was around. So once again I'm sorry to hear that.

Deb 01-10-2003 07:05 PM

PK - *Hugs*
Sorry to hear that hon, I know what you're going through. I just had to put my 19 yr. old cat down in November. I held her in my arms as the vet injected her, so at least she died in the arms of someone that loved her, like your Princess did.

You're right - it is like losing a kid. My son is 21 and this had been "his" cat for all of the years that he can remember. We had her cremated and she sits here on my desk with me every day - just like she did when she was alive. :)

She'll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge with open paws. :thumbsup

Fletch XXX 01-10-2003 07:06 PM

Condolences PK.

cherrylula 01-10-2003 07:07 PM

big hugs.... she was lucky to have you as such a good cat mom for so many years. :)

I think the average life of a cat is like 2 years (so many unwanted cats). Poor kitties. Maybe she will come back as a tigress.

kaylacam 01-10-2003 07:08 PM

Oh sweet heart! I *SO* know what you are going thru! I lost my beloved Celsius the Monday before Thanksgiving...if you need to talk about it, ICQ me (52175714) or AoL IM me (CrankyAngelGirl)

Beastiepoo 01-10-2003 07:17 PM

Condolences to you PK. I too lost a kitty recently (April). I got to hold him while they put him to sleep and as hard as it was and as much as I miss him I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Sending you a big hug, I'm sure you need it.:(

chupacabra 01-10-2003 07:17 PM

very sorry to hear, you had very good amount of time w/ her though, and i am happy to hear that.

your sadness is the price we pay as humans to surround ourselves w/ creatures who are destined to a shorter existance... its a price many of us, like yourself, gladly pay for the joy they bring to our lives. condolences for your loss.

Nysus 01-10-2003 07:24 PM

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure she had a wonderful 19 years 4 months with you. :)

Cheers,
Matt

Sorry to hear about the kitty. I lost mine last summer. I know exactly what you're going through.

LadyMischief 01-10-2003 07:36 PM

My condolences for your loss, ma'am :) We lost a very old miss meow last year.. Pokeroo was almost 25 years old when she passed on. She had more than lived her life... The 5 kitties (Nari, Wacko, Meryet, Smudge and Mickey) that we have left and us send warmest wishes for health to the kitties you have that remain, and know that your princess is free from pain now :)

Pornwolf 01-10-2003 07:55 PM

sorry to hear that , I had to put my dog down from lymphoma last year this month , he was only 6 1/2 . Seek comfort in that your cat had a good long life and rest comfortably knowing you did the best you could , 19 is impressive.

Very sad to hear that, it's not fun losing a friend, pet or no, but it is a good long life for a kitty.

A friend I chat with in mass. has two sibling cats both 20 years old, and one is quite sick, the other one is depressed (she thinks) because her playmate is not doing so good.

it is nice that you are able to keep Princess with you for so long.

Our friend and neighbour has three cats, right now... unfortunately, as has happened with her previous cats... when they get older either the racoons or urban coyotes take them, cause they cannot fend for themselves.

PersianKitty 01-10-2003 09:43 PM

Thanks all of you for your kind words. It means more than you know.

Sorry PK.

KRL 01-10-2003 10:05 PM

Sorry to hear about your kitty Beth. I lost 3 to the same type of thing in the past 2 years. Had mine for 12 years. The 4th cat we had turned into a total freak after his buds died. We couldn't even keep him here. He was running around like a total crazed cat. Staring like he was seeing the ghosts of the cats that had died and then just zooming all over the place.

Ended up giving him to a friend to see if a different evironment would help his stress and some old lady bitch frickin catnapped him when he was wondering in her yard and gave him to a pet adoption place. The bitch wouldn't even tell us where she had taken him. Called in the police and she wouldn't tell them either.
Really sad.

Had the cat thing out of me now for good and just stickin to dogs.

Gator 01-10-2003 10:22 PM

Sorry to hear that PK. She is such a pretty cat. Makes me think of my two and appreciate them more. Will break my heart to see them go.

Mike AI 01-10-2003 10:29 PM

PK sorry to hear about your kitty...

I know you have heard this before, but it is important to dwell on the long time you had with a great pet!

Sam I Am 01-10-2003 10:29 PM

So sorry for your loss PersianKitty:( She is a beautiful cat. I lost my persian a couple of years ago to liver disease and I haven't been able to get up the courage to get another one.

Dawgy 01-10-2003 10:48 PM

PK's bunch was the only kitties that Dawgy liked.

Carrie 01-10-2003 11:09 PM

PK, she's beautiful. Still. And she's with you - just close your eyes and you'll feel her.
Blessed Be...
