Any comments on "TONY ROBBINS"

I heard about him a few times now. He is a motivational speaker or something like that. Heard that he changed some lives...

Anyone read his books or use his tapes?

Fletch XXX 01-10-2003 07:19 PM

hottoddy 01-10-2003 07:21 PM

Like Scientology, Rich Dad Poor Dad, etc., he dangles an appetizing carrot and then follows up with tons of upsells.

Za Ha 01-10-2003 07:24 PM

Sorry I dont really get what you guys are saying... :Oh crap

Fletch XXX 01-10-2003 07:25 PM

What carrot does Scientology dangle?

I bought all of the book for like 30 bucks, and read them.

no carrot.

mental health, and the stability of deactivating the reactive (analytical) mind.

hhahaha

What does Scientology have to do with Tony Robbins?

I've bought a lot of Tony Robbin's books & CD. Very good imo.
I don't think I'd pay the ridiculous prices for the seminars, but the books & cd's are great.

Monique Niccole 01-10-2003 08:12 PM

Tony Robbins----met him. He's very tall and had very large hands. Freakish. Like a giant.

He's a funny guy. Great sense of humor. But you get the feeling he could be a prick.

He is very wealthy and he has all these ideas about how to build wealth--but mostly from a spiritual rather than practical standpoint. His seminars are very expensive. He upsells a lot of shit. And he's always working. That is why he's wealthy. Not because he has some sort of mojo that he can pass on to you for $2 grand per seminar.

If you want advice about your money...go to a finiancial advisor. If you feel like you need more self-confidence and the ability to trust in yourself so that you can better your life....well go to Tony Robbins...although I'd probably go to a psychiatrist...they're cheaper.

If you just want to walk barefoot on hot coals and feel all good about yourself afterward...go to Tony Robbins.

From thread
http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...pagenu mber=1
Hes full of shit!

Some facts:

On his tape Investing Tricks in 1999 he urges All listeners to Invest in his new Company Dream Life, inc. AKA Dreamlife.com

The company since then went under and never made a penny!

http://biz.yahoo.com/e/010814/dlif.ob.html

The only money he made is selling books,

All those people in the infomercial, Clinton etc. they make it look like because of him Clinton became president etc.

all the famous people in the infomercial where successful way before the name tony robbins exisited.

All his business concepts and shit never made anyone a penny and lost investors tens of millions of dollars.

Just selling tapes on how to be successful he makes money of.

Anyone selling anything on TV on how to lose weight or how to make money etc. will make money.

Another point he has one tape on relationships and how he makes sure hius wife is always happy blah blah guess what hes now going thru a NASTY divorce

I only recommend 1 book:

Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill.

Good quality unadulterated shit from back in the day. Don't buy an edited version either.

Robert De Grimston.

look him up, one of the motivational speakers from the 60's hehehe 'the process is yours'

ive read more books on how to fit in and pattern peoples behavior than i have to conduct myself. From the Enneagram to 'Influencing People' read it all. Love to get reactions and stimuli.

Psyched the fuck out, and drizunk.

Gman.357 01-10-2003 08:34 PM

Tony Robbins and all these other motivational speakers are just what their title suggests. Don't get his tape expecting to learn tip and tricks to make millions... it's just rhetoric meant to stimulate your self-esteem and help you get going on shit if you procrastinate.

But if all the glam propeganda and riches and hype you see spammed around this board and all over sponsor programs on a regular basis doesn't get you motivated enough, then buy a crack pipe and some rocks to go with those Robbins tapes, because I don't think you have a pulse.

I had a girlfriend that was really into his tapes. She got sucked in for thousands of $ and seminars.

That stuff can be good if you aren't the self-motivating type.

hershie 01-10-2003 09:50 PM

two quasi motivational books that i found worthwhile for learning how to deal with stress better are "who moved my cheese" and also "don't sweat the small stuff"

quiet 01-10-2003 09:52 PM

one of my high school friends dad was hardcore into Tony Robbins. He was a car salesman.

he had this one room in house completed filled with Robbins shit: books/tapes/videos/ everything. kinda creepy :glugglug

always makes me think Annette Benning in American Beauty, selling houses and listening to movitational tapes in her Mercedes SUV lol.

Fletch XXX 01-10-2003 09:53 PM

read books.

dont buy tapes.

if you cant differentiate between your take in and the discards youre in the wrong line of philosophy. Its all about what you read, you intercept, and how you eject.

Words are only reassembled they are never just rearranged.

What carrot? Perfect memory, vision, hearing, etc. ... all that "deactivating the reactive mind" bs.

Buy all the books you want, but to become a high level clear, you gotta join up and go through tons of "auditing" sessions - each requiring $$. They milk their members far more effectively than most "churches."

Exactly what I was just thinking.

The stuff this guy aims to do, reminds me of those church shows on TV. Selling people dreams.

Its like saying "I met this guy who ate 3 burgers a day today he is wealthy and a super model"

Whats one got to do with another, they don't if his tapes worked the 10 million people who purchased it the fat rate of 80% would be lower not going up and there would be more then a million millionaires

just get your ass in gear and work it off and set goals and meet them and thats the fuckin end of it

I'm guessing he's one in a million.

Just because Jared lost weight on the SubWay diet, doesn't mean you will.

There are so many variables and triggers inside ones mind, how can one person possibly pinpoint them all and take effect over mass media? Yeh, Hitler did it, but the circumstances and variables were much different.

Kids and uninformed folk cant weigh up to folks who have been reading the doctrine for years.

grow some fucking chest hair and then yap about theology.

I love how people have opinions but no experience.

keep yapping.

instead why dont you pick up a book...

jealous because im 'clear' you havent even read the books to know what that is. See you in 3 years...

:glugglug

Sly_RJ 01-10-2003 11:25 PM

Yes, we're all jealous of you Fletch.

Snake Doctor 01-11-2003 01:05 AM

Go the cheap route. He has 2 books in paperback that you can pick up at the local bookstore, or maybe even at the used book store.

If you get a lot out of the books and feel it would be worth it to buy more of his stuff then do it.

If not then don't.

Personally I like the guy.

HeadPimp 01-11-2003 01:31 AM

Go buy his books at the used book store. He may be lame, but he has some good stuff in there. Besides you never know where you are going to get your next great inspiration or idea.

ROFL! So true... and a great movie.

Back on topic, Tony Robbins and Scientology are compared often because both "Personal Improvement" programs are similar in that they both borrow 90% of their techniques from popular psychology, then charge thousands of dollars to rehash these psychological techniques as "new ideas". Personally, I see Scientology as being quite evil (they want to bilk their followers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, to ultimately reveal that our ancestors are clams, and we're all full of thousands of disembodied space aliens (I'm not making that up)), while Tony Robbins is just a guy out making a buck (he's just looking for a few grand from each follower).

Both approaches can indeed motivate someone looking for a little motivational push, as they are based on commonly accepted psychological techniques that do work, but neither program is with over a few hundred bucks in total. Hell, all that info is available for free on the net anyhow.

I hated his informercial.

B_Maverick 01-11-2003 10:12 AM

I've got one of Tony Robbins' books, several by Napolean Hill...and a host of others in my library. Each of them has some "gems" in it...but all of them must be taken with a grain of salt.

Many motivational speakers/writers use the premise that you can "be whatever you believe you can be". Indeed this is true...to an extent.

When you look at people like Bill Gates, Ross Perot, Andrew Carnegie...and others of that class...you have to remember they are unique individuals. What they have done is exploit thier own inner talents...and chased thier dreams passionately.

For Robbins or Hill...or anyone to say that "You can be the next Bill Gates" is misleading...and is really just "upsell" pitch. The fact of the matter is that we each have talents and desires...and we first have to find them before we can exploit them.

I myself was in managment for a few years...working my way up the corporate ladder...attending seminars...trying to be the best manager I could be. The bottom line was...I hated it...I had no talent for it...and no matter how hard I tried, I would never be a good manager.

Sales people run into this often...especially in the Real Estate industry. Everyone who gets a license feels like they are on the road to riches...but the fact is most do not have the talent and desire to weather that road.

The first step to success, even using the methods of Hill, Robbins, or any other motivational guru...is to find the path you want to be on...and that you have a natural talent for...otherwise all of the hard work you do, you will hate...and you can never be successful hating what you do.
