How sad - no Technics SL 1210 anymore..

every DJ on this planet knows it, loves it, can't live without it... but it seems that along with the death of vinyl now also this icon has died - Technics announced that production has been stopped :(

R.I.P. my friend, we spent many fun hours together

LeRoy 10-08-2010 03:42 PM

Yep it's sad to see a good DJ mix CD's.

donkevlar 10-08-2010 03:46 PM

Really? You'd think they would be re popularized yet again because of Serato and stuff like that.

Socks 10-08-2010 03:48 PM

Holy fuck? I wonder if they're going to go up in value now..

Also I wonder if it's a lack of vinyl or that some of the other advanced decks are becoming more popular. They caught up.

I wondered when this was going to happen.

They should just raise the price of one to $2999 and stay open. :1orglaugh

Where did you see this announcement at?

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 10-08-2010 08:06 PM

Meh, there's so many good tunes right now you can't even get on vinyl and only find on places like Beatport and whatnot. CDJ-1000's are the way to go. Sorry vinyl fans, but your days are numbered....

babymaker 10-08-2010 08:16 PM

Damn, music sux ass now anyway would be nothing to put on them :(

gleem 10-08-2010 08:51 PM

Sweet now mine will gain value :thumbsup

The Dawg 10-08-2010 08:56 PM

Those 1200's served me well back in the day. :thumbsup

ultimatebbwdotcom 10-08-2010 09:14 PM

If you cant tear it up on Technics, you're not a real DJ.

seeric 10-08-2010 09:57 PM

I will take the 4 i have to my grave.

NaughtyRob 10-08-2010 10:53 PM

NaughtyRob 10-08-2010 11:02 PM

This rumor has been floating around since last year.

No official word yet although there is supposedly a letter from Panasonic Japan to it's distributors discussing hard times and how they will discontinue the analog Turntable.

Again still in RUMOR stages

:2 cents:

Matyko 10-08-2010 11:18 PM

saaaaad ... :(((((

2MuchMark 10-08-2010 11:18 PM

Vinyl sucks monkey balls. People who say that Vinyl sounds better have no idea what they are talking about. They mistake the wobble, cracks, scratches, pops and friction for sonic "warmth" only because they don't know what they're hearing. Uncompressed digital (not mp3's, come on) are the the only way.

Goodbye Vinyl. Buh bye. Get the fuck out and stop taking up so much room.

For fans of this turntable, I'm pretty sure you can find some on Ebay. Buy one now before the collectors start hoarding them.

JustDaveXxx 10-08-2010 11:36 PM

i got my 4 still.

yeah spinning on the wheels of steel

trannysphere 10-09-2010 01:17 AM

who said vinyl is dead? mark prince? :P

oh well, it depends on who's listening/collecting. still love the smell of wax and the LP cover art.. ohh i love 45's :)

Hellfire 10-09-2010 01:21 AM

No wonder, but i personally having Stanton ST-150 turntables. Very rare stuff, but they are 3x more powerfull than 1210's - 4,5kg of torque... and 19kg of weight

facialfreak 10-09-2010 01:34 AM

I suspect that the discontinuation of the 1210 will only serve to appreciate and inflate the price of the eventual new 1200 series turntable ....

A very smart move by Matsushita Electric Industrial Inc. :thumbsup

(remember if you will ... they used a similar tactic before introducing the SL-1200MK3, which afforded them a hefty USD$200 price increase back in 1988 or 1989 ...)

Most Reggae, but especially 1970's dub sounds so much better on vinyl.

Vinyl Rocks dude :thumbsup i like how it feels, maybe i am nostalgic
Digital has been taking over... I keep hearing vinyl 's making a come back, that's not gonna happen. Pricer & Heavier are what they are, even tho i love em.

What should i do with my pair of Technics MK II ?

candyflip 10-09-2010 07:38 AM

I wonder if they'll go up in price now. I've still got my old 1200s in the attic sealed up for safe keeping.

fatfoo 10-09-2010 07:40 AM

I respect DJs. I'm not a good DJ at all. If I started being a DJ it would the equivalent of some guy taking off his shoe to spin the record with his shoe or something.

OneWhoKnows 10-10-2010 09:06 AM

Well, if that's true I guess I can make some nice bucks if I sell those 2 I still have in my basement in a few years :pimp

ThumbLord 10-10-2010 09:11 AM

it is for real this time?
I know it was a rumor, if it is for real this is a sad day indeed.
I have 2 in mint condition, need to replace the needle in one of them still.

While it definitely is not the same .... I must say I am loving being able to pack my entire setup in an attache case ... including 20x more music than I used to pull when spinning vinyl ... and with the digital effects available for VDJ, and several self-made loops and samples, you really can have a lot of fun with it!!!

Still not the same experience as spinning on 12s ... but the setup and breakdown for a gig is much faster!! :pimp:thumbsup

I think whether you're spinning on 12s, or going the all digital route, they are both an art form! :thumbsup:thumbsup

wait, can you actually plug you decks in with vdj like serato? i thought it was strictly desktop...

2MuchMark 10-10-2010 01:44 PM

Spinning on turntables will probably be around forever. You get alot more freedom of expression. DJ's like Mixmaster Mike of the Beastie Boys and whats-his-name from Linkin Park use both Analog and digital.

I am speaking strictly on sound quality. Anything that introduces new sound into playback has to be considered "noise" as it is not a part of the artists original recording. Turntable rumble, the friction of a needle against wax contribute to this. Even shitty amps with tubes bring noise to the mix.

Ramp 10-10-2010 01:49 PM

I prefer my CDJs, playing music from my mac have never been better.

But yes, vinyl and cdj djing is a little different styles.
