Ethical Question For Paysite Owners
Lets say you have a few paysites, but one of them hasn't been updated in over a year. You notice there are a significant number of subscribers on the non-updated site who have been members since the start of the website launch. Every month their accounts re-bill, but they have never logged-in in many months.
Do you have an ethical problem taking that money? |
Oh yes I am sure they fret over that!
|
guess it doesnt matter that its not updated if they dont log in

Do insurance agents feel bad about taking premiums every month even when the client only has an accident every 3-4 years?
|
They pay so they can log in if they want to:2 cents:
If a man rents a car he never drives do they come get it? |

Ok I feel better now lol
|
I usually cancel it..
However, the points stated above make sense as well. I think its your choice at the end of the day.. |
What I am gonna do is just sent out a mass mailer thanking everyone for being such loyal members. If they still stay on after that, then I am cool with it.

Are you from The Phillipines or India? |
You should bundle the site with the ones you update.
|
update a little bit or just let us update for you. we do the work and we have content. We will send you small bill. Or use our feeds we update them so you are good. and bill will be small
|
rotate the content so that the old stuff starts appearing as the latest updates

you sound like a pussy.
|
No way.
Unless you duped them into a recurring subscription, there's no ethical problem there. Does your ISP/Host roll over your unused bandwidth to the next month? No. That's not how the world works. |
You know what, on second thought I'm going to remove my recurring options and only offer non-recurring memberships.
:1orglaugh |
business is business, but you guys must feel a little guilt billing suckers like that... I would... :2 cents:
|
Interesting question.
It really is their fault for not paying attention to their own monthly charges on their cards. Is there a negative consequence to you if when they discover the charges and ask the CC company for a long refund? Maybe sending out a e-mail to the ones in question giving them a bonus of some sort, like a additional membership to one of your other sites for being a long standing member. |
I felt bad because I never jumped on the dialer bandwagon because I felt bad for what it did to the surfer, NOW I'm kicking myself in the ass because I could've made THOUSANDS more :(
|
You could update the site daily and there would still be a percentage of members who never log in. Happens with most sites and has very little to do with the site.
|
It's part of running a business. I have probably 10 charges a month for products I never use on my visa. I'm sure none of them have a problem taking my money.
HOWEVER if they complain and ask for a refund i would do a full max refund. That's what we do. |

Netflix doesnt care that I didnt rent a dvd for 3 months. My dumb fault for not renting a dvd 3 times a week and getting more then my moneys worth.
Take the money and sleep well at night. |

Looks like you're on the wrong biz... I hope you don't get crushed.

OP, just update the sites if you're guilty. Rebills are not to be taken for granted... edit: I know you can't fully refund phone billing because of the intermediaries, etc... |
wow, an ethical question about money on GFY....
