Godaddy steals one of my domains

So I was told not to have Godaddy as a registrar, and I didn't heed the advice. Last year, someone hacked my godaddy account and changed my DNS to their servers (all traffic redirected), and godaddy gave me some shit about "We have no idae how that happened and we don't keep logs of who logs into your account blah blah blah".

That should have been my first clue.

Today I get a notice they have stolen an adult domain of mine because it was against their rules. Was nothing but a single page that redirected to an affiliate program (totemcash I think).

What was I thinking leaving my domains at Godaddy?!?!?! They are scammers, but I'm a idiot - which is worse???

AzteK 10-12-2010 06:58 PM

Being an idiot. Yea it's far worse.

Domain Broker 10-12-2010 06:59 PM

Yes true. But Godaddy hasn't told their side. They just took the domain.

TeenCat 10-12-2010 07:10 PM

i am sorry man but godaddy have no rep here on gfy ...

remon 10-12-2010 07:17 PM

So what's the preferred domain registrar at GFY?

anarchy 10-12-2010 07:17 PM

Do not use godaddy.. I repeat :P

anexsia 10-12-2010 07:17 PM

Name Cheap ftw.

GAMEFINEST 10-12-2010 07:20 PM

godaddy is a a ghettos

Intrinsic 10-12-2010 07:22 PM

Moniker > Godaddy

camperjohn64 10-12-2010 07:23 PM

I started with Moniker.com but didn't move all my domains. I didn't really care about the domain, since it was just parked. I am more flabberghasted that they would steal it.

My suspiscion is that someone wanted to snipe the domain, so they made a complaint about it to get the ball rolling on getting it deleted. If I wanted to steal a domain, that's what I would do.

Jason Voorhees 10-12-2010 07:47 PM

NameCheap. RichardK is a member of this board. :2 cents:

BIGTYMER 10-12-2010 07:58 PM

Did you try calling them? I love their staff and they have ALWAYS helped me.

baddog 10-12-2010 08:01 PM

I would love to know the domain name that violated their terms.

Me too. What domain is it?

wild johnny 10-12-2010 08:04 PM

I agree it would be interesting to know the domain name. No reason for it to be a secret..

arock10 10-12-2010 08:06 PM

yes, what violated their terms? did your domain have the word pedo in it

anybody but godaddy :2 cents:

Moniker, name.com, namecheap, dynadot and internet.bs are all good registrars.

That has happened in the past and I've warned about it on here multiple times. Also, one spam complaint and godaddy holds your domain for a $200 or so ransom. No one seems to really listen until it happens to them.

camperjohn64 10-12-2010 08:49 PM

Yes of course. elizabethnobriga.com - a model I met years ago that wanted a site. We never really did anything with it and I just pointed it to totemcash.

Domain servers in listed order:
NS1.SUSPENDED-FOR.SPAM-AND-ABUSE.COM
NS2.SUSPENDED-FOR.SPAM-AND-ABUSE.COM

Did they say why it was suspended?

dyna mo 10-12-2010 09:03 PM

i use enom.com for registering domains but i use godaddy for ssl certs since they are the cheapest and i call them and tie up a rep for a bit too, since i dislike them so much.

GTS Mark 10-12-2010 09:07 PM

Godaddy is horrible! I lost a couple of domains a few years back because of their shitty system.

I would highly recommend Moniker

docputer 10-12-2010 09:15 PM

I may be wrong, but I thought namecheap had free or cheap ssl certs

baddog 10-12-2010 09:15 PM

That's funny.

They didn't say why. I just replied "What do I do now?" and see if there is recourse, or if they just really steal them. Tomorrow I move all my domains to Moniker.

I agree with that other guy - we never move and never listen until it is too late. Like smoking or wearing your seatbelt or using a condom or whatever - once you got the herpes, it's here to stay.

At least it wasn't on a domain that was of real value.

I am pointing my finger at myself and saying "I told me so!!"

namecheap did a promo a while ago where you got a free SSL cert with every domain registration or transfer.

godaddy certs look like 49.99 per domain and namecheap rapidssl is 10.95 :thumbsup

I'd agree with you if I considered the domains I had at Network Solutions. Unfortunately, I lost that three sided argument. Turned out to be a lot more productive to buy new domains and have all my trade partners redirect their links.

With Directnic, I have no problems.

they're always on sale, been buying em at the sale price for years now for several domains.

i didn't mean to imply they were the cheapest but one of the cheapest.

adult-help 10-12-2010 10:13 PM

sorry but i dont belive they did this...must be different reasons than they just stealing you redirect domain - they earn millions and million and things like this could cost them thousands of dollar more if it was true than taking your sites..

cheekycherry 10-12-2010 10:28 PM

I don't post much, but must have posted half a dozen times advising people not to use godaddy.

They are scum.

Then all the usual people chime in... "well, I've been with them years and they are fine blah blah"...

BS!

Namecheap ARE the best.... Fuck godaddy.

TeenCat 10-13-2010 01:31 AM

i heard they are also killing presidents ...

GARY LEE 10-13-2010 01:55 AM

I just use my hosting company, the planet, to purchase my domains as well. It's pretty easy all being there in one place. Guess I'm just lazy.

Black All Through 10-13-2010 02:25 AM

I have my domains spread out, however Godaddy in 7 years has never given me any problems at all. To be honest the live support is much better than the competition.

BIGTYMER 10-13-2010 02:38 AM

If I were you I'd call or email them and ask what the reason was.

Or do you know and just playing dumb?

JenC 10-13-2010 02:47 AM

I've used Namecheap for years and love love love them.

I emailed them back at their suggested email. Will report back what I get.
