Favorite foods you serve/eat at holiday parties?
Okay so I am having a family gathering for xmas this year and always looking for new recipes to try for parties.
My husband keeps mentioning a 7 layer dip, but there are so many recipes out there I'll have to just come up with my own. My mom used to make those mixed up cheese balls you serve with crackers, and of course there is veggies and dips but that is sort of boring. I'm trying to make it not so WT, like no crock-pots with nacho cheese. :1orglaugh Favorite appetizers? Party food? What do people really like to eat at parties? oh yeah, non-Americans I love to hear what you guys do, I know it's probably not nacho cheese in a crock pot. LOL |
always love naomi bars
here are some sneak peek at the ones we had last year http://imgur.com/dHwiH.jpg |
mmm this thread is seriously going to induce hunger...! yummy pic! but um what is that creature thing standing by the window? lol

meat, bbq, anything but must be meat :)

A good place to find recipes of that sort is Epicurious.com I suggest making a really good cheese plate with 6-8 different cheeses and a few different cracker options. One of my favorites is artichoke dip with toasted pita dipping wedges.
Whenever I have a gathering like that I will go the route of crostini and make 6-7 variations so everyone has a little bite size snack. Here is a mix of savory and sweet we did for a small get together at our place... |
Do up some swedish meatballs and a couple of sauces. To go with those, maybe some li'l smokies mini smoked sausages. Things to jam fancy toothpicks into, lol.
|
yeah meatballs are always good! lol meatballs

Find a catering service. Even if you dont order anything, you can see what they serve. Then serve that.

I make Bourbon BBQ meatballs that people like and it so borderline white trash that it is great. Plus, my mom's rum cake recipe comes out for nearly every holiday party. Then there is the typical mini sausages wrapped in bacon, sprinkled with brown sugar and baked until done.

shrimp and the red stuff. done and done
|
nothin tastier than bean dip
|
deviled eggs
|
Humus and some fresh pita,
or some crab creamcheeze salsa dip, man that shit's good. Bruschetta is good, and easy as fuck to make. Fresh home made salsa is always a hit with fresh tortilla's |
oh yeah always deviled eggs Kimmy Kim! and we do fresh salsa all the time... habanero. I need to do some grocery shopping now but not brave enough to deal with the Halloween crowds. lol

Something super simple and super delicious-
Slice and toast a baguette top with goat cheese & 1 oil cured black olive drizzle with honey- http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2790/...7f94e4d580.jpg Something also pretty easy- Get a carton of black mission or brown turkey figs (i like brown turkey best) if you eat meat take figs and wrap in prosuitto ham and bake in the oven for a little bit if you don't eat meat slice figs in half and top with cheese before putting in the oven. Manchego is always a good choice.:thumbsup |

My fav is always spinach dip in a bread bowl....but I like the simple things in life

|
favorite breakfast sausage (brown & drain)
+ rotel tomatoes (drained) + 1 big box of velveeta cheese melt together, keep warm in crock pot. will go very fast, have a backup ready. |
I like those cocktail sausages
|
We normally make stuffing for the turkey with hash in it. We never make it half way through the football game. The hash mellows you out and the turkey puts you to sleep. About 4PM on Thanksgiving we're all snoring!
