The UK times pay model
 

Its interesting to see that 'it looks' like the times has people paying to read the news on its site.

As you know news is free on the net (such as bbc.co.uk, google, cnn and so on).

So to turn to a payment option is interesting.

Its interesting to 'us' in the fact they are charging a feee for somthing thats free.

A bit like today with porn. Getting people to pay for somthing that is basicly free.

So why pay for the times news rather than free?

One must presume its becase they offer news and articles that you do not get free.

Apply that to porn. People will pay for stuff they cannot get free.

You could think this way, while you may think its great to put full films on tube sites for people for free due to them getting millions of hits, and mabe the odd sale. One could say that as its free its enough for most people, so while you may get the odd sale, you could be loosing many many many more sales.

Basicly porn is now in two forms:

1. Free. (tubes and so on)
2. Pay. (members area)

The odd thing is, people set up a pay site, shoot content, costing them $$$$, then give (yes give) it to tube sites, for them to make the bulk of there cash from dating and web cam sites. They must wet themselves that people 'give' them all this free content.

The problem with pay sites is getting people to your site.

This will be the challange of pay sites. To get people to your site and having them 'want' to join, but by doing so with not posting your members area all over the web.

they have mainstream,
a solid group of readers of the paper so a percentage will pay for the online version
they create unique content and they will take legal action if you use that content.
