People who have been around a long time using new ICQ #s...

Why? I typically come to the assumption that they had an older number and either pissed a lot of people off or scammed a lot of people and are trying to get away from it and re-establish themselves so they can do it again. If there are legitimate reasons to have been in this biz a long time but have a new ICQ #, or have multiple ICQ #s, I would like to know.

I know some people who said they are using new ICQ number in addition to their old number is because when you get so many people on your list ICQ is jammed.

One solution is to use something like Trillium to add multiple icq number so you can have more people on your list.

Personally I never tired it but I'm sure a few people here do that.

I have what I'd like to think is a good reputation in the industry, but after ten years of abuse I could stand a new ICQ number. Time to ditch the trash and get only the productive people on my ICQ.

I switched to a 6 digit because I thought people would rep me... Guess I was wrong.

I think the same thing about people who talk like they have been here for years but they are using a nick registered a couple months ago.

My original ICQ number is associated with my IDirect acount - back in 1998. I switched to Bell Sympatico around 1999 and my ICQ hasn't worked since then. 11 years ago.

They are free, so why not get a new one from time to time...

ottopottomouse 10-31-2010 05:35 AM

Depends if you just want a complete clean-up of your contacts or to definitely get rid of someone who has been annoying you.

ThumbLord 10-31-2010 05:56 AM

or your old ICQ was nicked by russians/hackers?

Meloman 10-31-2010 11:39 AM

I have 2 icq numbers. My original Meloman ICQ used for personal biz registered like 10+ years ago and my AdultFriendFinder ICQ used only for AFF biz registered 2 years ago.

Most of the internet adult business still uses icq in 2010 for instant messaging including program owners, reps, affiliate managers, webmasters, content producers, billers and others. Many also use Skype and some other multi-platform i.m. clients. I do most business over email of course, but icq is where people hit me up usually for instant communication.

spazlabz 10-31-2010 04:10 PM

I had an ICQ number back in 96 no shit, I have had a lot of number. what I used to do was make a new one all the time because I would forget the old one. I did not use it for business until recently 4 or 5 years ago, even then I had a few different ones. I have finally settled on the one I have now and use it every day

So someone is trying to get clean from a tarnished reputation by changing their ICQ but keeping the same handle everywhere else? I've never run into someone changing their ICQ and handle at the same time. Every now and then someone will contact me "hey I needed to change my ICQ because I lost my password", "some Russian hacked it", "I couldn't stand the spam anymore", "I'm just a sexy girl"... but never "I ruined my rep so I had to change!"

mgtarheels 10-31-2010 04:17 PM

Im still trying to figure out why this industry uses antiquated messengers

Cradle 10-31-2010 05:08 PM

only reason i changed is to have a short number cuz i kept forgetting my old one.
