Need suggestions for content sales site

Hello,

As a photographer I have been building up a collection of content for the past 15 years and am considering launching a content sales site. I don't just want a simple storefront as I want a way to have a potential buyer sort on type of pictures, be able to see samples, and then buy and download the set of pictures. I already do web hosting so I have the server, I have the domain, I just need the right software that will handle the shopping and sales.

One concept that some programs might not handle is a 3-tier pricing structure so I can offer exclusive, semi-exclusive, and non-exclusive pictures. I would also like to be able to do volume sales so I need some pricing options.

If it works out, I would like to be able to offer pictures for sale that belong to other photographers looking for a sales channel. I have primarily shot softcore and fetish and would want photographers that shoot other genre to be able to flesh out (pardon the pun) the offering.

I know content sales only represents a small part of the adult business and there are a limited number of people doing it so there is probably not a plethora of options available, but there must be something out there. I did find one PHP program that was done for someone else that I would be able to buy a copy of and get some customization done for me but it is quite spendy. I just want to know what my options are before I make the plunge.

Thanks,

Bday boy

You might be lucky...

There was a popular content site for sale a couple years called Ounique

The sales price was never posted, but I emailed the owner and found out that the price was $25000

A couple months ago, customers were notified that they should make sure that they downloaded all their content from the archives since the site was going offline... like now... if it hasn't happened already.

The point is... you may not have $25000... and the previous owner never did find a buyer... but he might be willing to either sell you the store a greatly reduced cost since he is currently getting $0.00... or he might be willing to sell you the store script

Otherwise, you probably need to get with a programmer and pay him to modify a merchant script such as OsCommerce

Personally, I would try to get the Ounique script, name, etc if you are looking to do this full time. In case you don't know... Ounique was a content store that began in November 1998. They were a very successful brokerage store where photographers sent content (pictures and videos) with their model releases and picture IDs - so it was full 2257 compliant. They made about 50% of the sales price and the other half went to the author. Maybe it was that they made 60%... I forget now.

I really thought about this... for two years... but never wanted to part with the money. Now, since the owner got zip... I'm sure the price has fallen.

I just checked... the site is still online and there is a contact name in the 2257 statement

Good luck
