Opinions on DreamHost?? $10 for the year. Halloween Special
I figure for $10 I would use it to throw up some little blogs just for linking purposes. Any experience with them?

uh they have had that special for years.
I have been with dreamhost for about 7-8 years now and would recommend them. I pay extra for a "private server" and if I ever have issues with it I just reboot it. |
I'll give you a better deal, $9 for 1 year, promo code below.
Code: 11-1-10-4-$9 Ends tomorrow at midnight. No blowing smoke up your ass with unlimited BS. Only good on the VShared plan listed at https://www.amerinoc.com/hosting.php New orders only. 100 available. Cheers. |
Great deals here

It's $10 for a year, why do you need opinions? Are you afraid the 83 cents per month might not be worth it?
|
Crappy and cocky support.
They will cut you off anythine you start using "too much server memory". |

It's more about wasting time with them than it is wasting the 10 bucks. |
I feel like such a sucker paying $8 a month. I'm going to cancel my hosting with them.

run. Run. RUN.
Just had a horrible experience with Dreamhost (had a VPS there), I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. |
I really don't get the dreamhost hate here. I had 3 tubes on a shared plan before moving up to a VPS and I only ever had one problem which was due to some conflict between scripts.
I have a blog that gets 1 million page views a month and it was running slow, constantly crashing my server, it was a wordpress issue. I added a cache plugin and no more crashes. Support was quick to get me fixed up no problems and I KNOW I am using more than my alloted resources. I just wished it was easier getting FFMPEG and other modules to work on the VPS. |
Run away, run away, run far far away.
Obviously it's not about the money. It's about the support, or lack thereof. Their stuff is fine until you have a problem, then you're fucked. So using them is like using a freehost back in the bad old days ... if you've got something that is genuinely worthless to your enterprise, why not? On the other hand, if you've got something that's genuinely worthless to your enterprise, why bother? I have been involved in half a dozen clusterfucks that centered around "rescue somebody from dreamhost and get them moved to a real host somewhere so they could get their shit working again". Life is too short. |
Amerinoc just saved you a whole world of pain. Take XSV's promo and run.

This is what I see when looking at your plan. Used Max Disk Space (MB) 0.0 51200 Bandwidth (GB) 0.0000 5000.0 Not beyond the possibility that I missed something, but I'm not seeing what you are. :) |

For the use you specified, Dreamhost is fine. I have an account and my GF has one there. She is on a different server and her sites run great. Mine are slower but acceptable for the cost. I have actually had decent support from them when I had some issues with hers like getting crons set up properly. At the end of the day you get what you pay for and if you are paying cheap for some feeder blogs then go for it.
