I'm not a smoker. But obviously legalization in California would send ripples across the world for years to come. Successful legalization there would likely lead to further legalization across the US and indeed the world.

The fact you can get 45% of the population to vote yes on something like this is a positive. Anyone thinking this would pass this time was high. 10 years ago I doubt you'd get 35%. As more old folks die off and more younger people become of voting age it's a matter of time before this passes. They'll try sooner but ideally 2016 is the soonest I'd try this again.

I think it's better that the money stays with the criminals. How would they be able to buy guns made of gold and continue to kill people everywhere if they didn't have the money?
