That stuff is always spam. Do people actually approve those?

You just made that up to have something to write about. Worst case scenario, it just gets ignored. You really should stop talking about search engines.

Also, make sure you use anti spam plugin.. either akismet or typepad for wp.

Actually, yes, when I ran a search on a long ass string. Never underestimate the lowered vigilance of busy moderators. :helpme

The shorts ones get automatically scrubbed. It's the long "real" looking ones you have to watch out for. One give away is the open ended questions which could apply to any post.

I don't mean vague allusions to a 1/2+ decade old myth, but a clear explanation to support what you state to be fact.

While you're at it, why not impress people further by explaining why syndicated news published across 10's of 1000's of sites doesn't get them "penalized"? Or are all those news stories not long enough??

Duplicate content is the exact same content on your OWN website.

What that guy in the blog is referring to is syndicated content. COMPLETELY different.

Syndicated content will not hurt your blog. The worst that could happen is that particular page finds itself in the supplemental index.
