domain name forums suck ass

What's with domain name forums? It seems like they all kind of suck, or am I just missing something? I've been on dnforum for like 8 years but you have to pay to post and that's a turnoff for a lot of people. DP is full of scammers, and I'm getting really sick of the mods over at NP that delete people's posts and move threads to inappropriate sections.

Almost makes me want to say fuck it and start my own forum but that seems like a hassle.

PornMD 11-12-2010 04:37 PM

Yea, they aren't quite what they used to be (except DP which has always been full of cheap kiddies...biggest waste of space on the internets).

Brujah 11-12-2010 04:44 PM

Build a better one? A registrar recently bought DomainState.com so maybe there's an option.

stocktrader23 11-12-2010 04:56 PM

There is not one good mainstream forum that follows what's listed below.

1) Has a lot of users.

2) Has no fees to sell in most sections.

3) Doesn't have retarded mods.

4) Doesn't have 5,000 unnecessary forums.

5) Doesn't take 42 years to load their ugly ass template.

If you could hit critical mass with one that wasn't so gay you would make millions. Critical mass aint easy though.

The ones with any real value are by invite only

I sold about $300,000 part time on DP a few years ago. Depends on what you are doing as to whether or not they are valuable. :2 cents:

You seem clueless. This is far from gfy and porn. From the very biggest ones out there to your average broker working hard to turn a buck are on a few 'private' by invite only boards. Nothing to do with "fooling anyone" If you can show some record in the industry and/or have "known" ppl vouch for you, you can get in. Not hard, just don't be an ass.

Si 11-12-2010 05:47 PM

DNF ain't too bad, don't post very often though.

Yeah, some years back you could do some good deals and pick up some nice value working the diff dn boards. Not so much these days imho.

Machete_ 11-12-2010 05:52 PM

you have to clear it with Evan.

papill0n 11-12-2010 06:04 PM

why would you still be supporting NP after their well known scamming of webmasters and board members?

It wasn't on domains, if you mean private domain forums then I'm sure there's some value out there. General webmaster stuff, can't really see it.

I agree on pretty much every point there. Kinda debating on whether I want to get a forum going, leaning towards going for it at this point. Just trying to find a decent domain for it right now.

Oh k.
I meant the open regular dn boards. You used to be able to pick up some good value there. Not so much anymore. There are limits to how many "Which is the best registrar" threads one person can absorb :helpme

For professionals the real value is in networking where you know the other ppl are the real deal.

dropped9 11-12-2010 06:48 PM

forget about warrior forums its like one big infomercial

Yeah, that's why I avoid DP, seems to be a lot of crappy posts and scammers. Would be nice to have a higher quality domaining forum.

Anyone have any other suggestions or thoughts?

Klen 11-13-2010 05:28 PM

Perhaps we can make new domain forum now :)

i haven't been really active on DP in about a year, although i did get a couple hundred domains there...

but ya, the scammers run rampant, especially there... i was lucky and only got scammed once, but paid via paypal and was able to charge it back...

what is really needed is a forum that people must prove they are in the industry, that would weed out at least half of the surfers and scammers..

Did it take you a lot of time, CYF, to come to this conclusion?
What u-Bob said, period !

nope, didn't take too long. Just getting more fed up lately I guess.

Klen 11-13-2010 05:56 PM

Anyway making a forum it's not a problem if more people doing it-is enough to hire some indians to build backlinks and do some marketing and voila it will work in no time.
And yes DP is full of scammers i will never forget how i lost 1600$ there by doing transaction with person who had 60 itrader.

cocainer 11-13-2010 06:02 PM

namepros is still pretty good.

the mods at namepros have been deleting a lot of posts lately, and moving threads to inappropriate sections. Was probably my favorite until recently.

oh wasn't aware of that...the mods do really make an effort to clean that place up.

do it! lol...

i would do it but i could never maintain it... I have sites i bought over 2 years ago from other webmasters that i am now just getting around to changing their codes over.. lol (not really lol.. my wife is pissed at me...)

CYF 11-15-2010 01:07 PM

well I received an infraction today at namepros for bumping my for sale thread sooner than 24 hours. I only bumped it once per day but the last time it was only 18 hours instead of over 24+ hours :1orglaugh

Anyways, I've got a pretty decent domain for a forum (Thanks Si :thumbsup) and I'm experimenting with some forum software and organizing the forum. If anyone has suggestions or ideas for it I'd love to hear it.

On one hand, it would certainly be nice to have freedom to bump shit whenever like there is here. On the other, they're preventing spazzoids from flooding the first page with their shitty domains. DNf at least will auto-append the last post if it's bumped within the 24 hours or whatever (I think it's 48 hours if it was the first post of the thread). They get a little bit too jumpy with rules too sometimes though.

I'd love to give suggestions, but in the end you have 2 sides of the spectrum - quantity (increased activity/membership) and quality (trust/professionalism, quality posts, less spam/scamming). Trying to get one usually sacrifices the other. If I wasn't more focused on selling it vs. keeping it, I'd have possibly been interested in doing something on Doma.in, but alas it's one of the last really high quality names I've got and money'd be nice. :)

Thats why I don't post there, I don't like to pay for something with doubtful usefulness.

Good luck dude I will definately be posting over there when you get going :thumbsup

On thing I find handy is a easy reference guide/page of domains that are for sale. Maybe you could have a page where either paid or for a small fee a person can just list the domains that they have for sale. Like a master list page. And they can also have a thread that has deeper details of the domains.

I am not a member of other domain forums so this concept may already be utilized.

that's a really nice idea and I don't think I've seen it on a domain forum before. I'll definitely look into that, thanks :thumbsup

CYF 11-30-2010 06:08 PM

Well I received another "infraction" at namepros, and as far as I can tell I didn't break any of their rules.

I also noticed 2 of my posts have just mysteriously disappeared in the last couple of days. No notice from the mods, I didn't break any rules, they're just gone. Fuck that shit :321GFY
