domain name forums suck ass
What's with domain name forums? It seems like they all kind of suck, or am I just missing something? I've been on dnforum for like 8 years but you have to pay to post and that's a turnoff for a lot of people. DP is full of scammers, and I'm getting really sick of the mods over at NP that delete people's posts and move threads to inappropriate sections.
Almost makes me want to say fuck it and start my own forum but that seems like a hassle. |
Yea, they aren't quite what they used to be (except DP which has always been full of cheap kiddies...biggest waste of space on the internets).
|
Build a better one? A registrar recently bought DomainState.com so maybe there's an option.
|
There is not one good mainstream forum that follows what's listed below.
1) Has a lot of users. 2) Has no fees to sell in most sections. 3) Doesn't have retarded mods. 4) Doesn't have 5,000 unnecessary forums. 5) Doesn't take 42 years to load their ugly ass template. If you could hit critical mass with one that wasn't so gay you would make millions. Critical mass aint easy though. |
The ones with any real value are by invite only

you have to clear it with Evan.

why would you still be supporting NP after their well known scamming of webmasters and board members?

I meant the open regular dn boards. You used to be able to pick up some good value there. Not so much anymore. There are limits to how many "Which is the best registrar" threads one person can absorb :helpme For professionals the real value is in networking where you know the other ppl are the real deal. |
forget about warrior forums its like one big infomercial

Anyone have any other suggestions or thoughts? |
Perhaps we can make new domain forum now :)

i haven't been really active on DP in about a year, although i did get a couple hundred domains there...
but ya, the scammers run rampant, especially there... i was lucky and only got scammed once, but paid via paypal and was able to charge it back... what is really needed is a forum that people must prove they are in the industry, that would weed out at least half of the surfers and scammers.. |

Did it take you a lot of time, CYF, to come to this conclusion?
What u-Bob said, period ! |

Anyway making a forum it's not a problem if more people doing it-is enough to hire some indians to build backlinks and do some marketing and voila it will work in no time.
And yes DP is full of scammers i will never forget how i lost 1600$ there by doing transaction with person who had 60 itrader. |
namepros is still pretty good.

i would do it but i could never maintain it... I have sites i bought over 2 years ago from other webmasters that i am now just getting around to changing their codes over.. lol (not really lol.. my wife is pissed at me...) |
well I received an infraction today at namepros for bumping my for sale thread sooner than 24 hours. I only bumped it once per day but the last time it was only 18 hours instead of over 24+ hours :1orglaugh
Anyways, I've got a pretty decent domain for a forum (Thanks Si :thumbsup) and I'm experimenting with some forum software and organizing the forum. If anyone has suggestions or ideas for it I'd love to hear it. |

I'd love to give suggestions, but in the end you have 2 sides of the spectrum - quantity (increased activity/membership) and quality (trust/professionalism, quality posts, less spam/scamming). Trying to get one usually sacrifices the other. If I wasn't more focused on selling it vs. keeping it, I'd have possibly been interested in doing something on Doma.in, but alas it's one of the last really high quality names I've got and money'd be nice. :) |

On thing I find handy is a easy reference guide/page of domains that are for sale. Maybe you could have a page where either paid or for a small fee a person can just list the domains that they have for sale. Like a master list page. And they can also have a thread that has deeper details of the domains.
I am not a member of other domain forums so this concept may already be utilized. |

Well I received another "infraction" at namepros, and as far as I can tell I didn't break any of their rules.
I also noticed 2 of my posts have just mysteriously disappeared in the last couple of days. No notice from the mods, I didn't break any rules, they're just gone. Fuck that shit :321GFY |
The adult flippa, its coming soon.
