GOP pushing Obama on campaign promise

Remember when Obama said he would let a bill run on it's own merits, then added more earmarks to the healthcare bill than any bill in history?
Now the fresh blood of the GOP is pushing for the same thing, time to see if Obama's going to pony up and do what he said he would do!

Im so sick of the earmark thing it is a false argument. What are earmarks 1/10 of 1% of the budget? Lets fire some bigger fish.

Yeah, let's not do anything because, you know, even though earmarks are wrong, theyre really not wrong enough to fix.

Ear marks are a tool that politicians use to pass bad bills

Not so sure Mitch McConnel really wants that ... seems more like a poker hand.

If the US rally want that, make it a law , that will have to be obied as well in 2012, 2016, 2020 by who ever is in power ... :2 cents:

How are earmarks wrong? Would you rather the federal government decide where the money goes or your congressman?

So it is not the ear mark that is wrong, it is the politician. You can not legislate morality :winkwink: :2 cents:

Just taking away a bargaining chip on getting bad bills passed
Remember, it was Barry that said let the bill pass on it's own merits
Now votes are less likely to be bought and special interest will have less power to get those earmarks, this is a "GOOD" thing
It means bipartisanship will have to work, also, Democrats are not organized, never have been, the the GOP is split in half right now because of the Tea Party. Something like this can bring them to work together or not get anything done. Anyway you look at it, politics will change, A LOT

At least those bargaining chips are in the open. Closing down the earmarks will force everything, even more, to the back room.

It was in those earmarks that all the back door shit goes on

The earmarks are in the open, they are in the bills. Taking out earmarks will NOT stop congress from passing bad bills. That is just a pipe dream :1orglaugh

Vendzilla cannot understand ( admit that ) :

Democrats changed earmarking rules when they took control of Congress after the 2006 election, making earmark requests part of the public record. And in appropriations bills, lawmakers were forced to put their names next to their projects in the bill.
Now lets get back to the program showing ...
