Most will be gone in July of 2011. The war will be over but they will be a satellite.

No...most will remain...it was announced today...that combat forces will remain for a minimum of four more years...then may or may not be withdrawn.

But.... but.... but.... Obama campaigned on ending the Iraq war and sending MORE troops to Afghan and taking the fight to the proper people.....

P.S. We aren't at war with Afghan, yes we are in that Country but we aren't fighting them. So no, Afghan probably isn't Obama's War.

It looks like it will take a long time for forces to take over Afghanistan.

With all due repsect, no country has ever fought a successful war in Afghanistan and if the USA was serious about destroying whatever is being fought there, such a "war" would be over with quickly. In short, a series of surgical strikes would simply take out every known or suspected position held by the targets.

The "war" in Afghanistan is not about terrorism. It is about oil, pipelines, opium and political influence.

Again, we aren't at war with Afghan, we have nothing to lose or win, nothing to be successful over when it comes to Afghan, nothing to strike that would bring anything to an end.

Speaking of respect, how about respecting those that have fallen in combat, not protecting oil, pipelines or opium.... because it's not all about that, at least not the stories Veterans tell.

We are still in Germany and still in Japan. We should make it clear that if US forces come to your country, we will never ever leave - period. Leaving just makes us look like pussys.

I think the last guy to win a war there, was Alexander the Great and he didn't stay long, he was on his way to India.

Afghanistan has been the graveyard of the British, Russians and now combined forces of NATO.

After the Americans spent billions to help the Afghans defeat the Russians they should of spent millions on hospitals, schools and basic infrastructure. It would of been a long hard tough job to bring them up to a civilised modern country. But invading and occupying a country does nothing but breed more hate.

The soldiers that remain in Afghanistan to teach and arm the Afghan Army will be teaching and arming the future Taliban Army. If they're not already doing it.

Or do you think the only Taliban in the Afghan Army are the ones who kill NATO troops in a suicide mission?

Paul this "war" is about nothing but the control of the opium trade, the possibility of a natural gas and oil pipline; in short, there is nothing in that rocky place worth the loss of of the life a even a single American soldier.

The USA should withdraw it forces now and let the Afghanis fight it out among themselves and if they then choose to fuck with the USA, the USA should simply glass the place.

The USA does not want to find bin Laden; if bin Laden is found, there is no reason for war and it should be remembered that Osama is part of a large and weathy Saudi family which dreives its wealth from the construction business and the last thing the USA really wants to do is fuck with the Saudis.

We should bring home our valiant warriors now.

We have bigger fish to fry here at home.
