camera footage of guy keying my car...

http://demo1.mechbunny.com/video.avi
Seriously. That's what the camera caught...

Why did they even fucking bother installing these things? I could be jumping on the roof of the car in the foreground holding a giant sign with my name written on it and I would be unidentifyable :1orglaugh

CamTraffic 11-29-2010 06:09 AM

who s camera was that?

ShellyCrash 11-29-2010 06:16 AM

Sucks. With that quality you're better off not even having seen it. Looking at something that blocky is only a taunt. I agree, pointless to even have a camera at all in that case.

Looks like it is just a municipal camera installed by whatever city he lives in. Ask them to zoom and enhance like they do in the movies and you should be able to see exactly who did it. :winkwink:

k0nr4d 11-29-2010 06:21 AM

Its a closed, gated apartment complex with 24/7 gaurd and 20 security cameras, all of which are completely fucking useless.

ottopottomouse 11-29-2010 06:22 AM

Resolution is appalling.

A lot of the home systems don't seem much better than that - fuck all use in a burglary.

Altwebdesign 11-29-2010 06:26 AM

wht a tease, thats awful quality, did the guy just walk down the street and key all the cars in a line?

Nope, just mine. I have no enemies here either, i haven't even met anyone. They just were walking along and decided "oh theres a bmw, im gonna key it."

MaDalton 11-29-2010 06:54 AM

people like this make me VERY angry.

Machete_ 11-29-2010 07:13 AM

what car do you drive?

spazlabz 11-29-2010 07:19 AM

damn man sorry about what happened to you. I agree that the video is more of a taunt then a deterrent though :(

signupdamnit 11-29-2010 07:21 AM

I had this happen before so installed my own cameras. You can even put one in the car (covertly otherwise some might want to break in to steal it!) and have it send via a wireless relay (there are other options too) if you want. As long as the current draw is reasonable and your battery good it's usually fine overnight.

woj 11-29-2010 07:37 AM

Camera FAIL... but realistically it's not like the guy would get caught if the quality was any better..

if it was better quality and the rest of teh cameras weren't positioned retardedly, we would be able to see his face and we WOULD be able to catch him because you can see the stair case he enters at the end (each stair case has only like 6 or 7 apartments) so it would just be a matter of the cops knocking on a couple of doors. Someone is bound to know him.

MrBottomTooth 11-29-2010 07:46 AM

I had the same problem with a recent break-in. Have direct snapshots of the guy staring into the camera and still of no use.

Here he is putting on a second glove in my garage so he left no fingerprints. He only had one glove on when he came in, so he stole one of mine.

I went to one place to get a quote right now and its about 500 euros to do it. I will probably get it done privately instead of through insurance because they will raise my rates by like 20% so it will cost me like 1000 euros for them to pay out 500 euros. Insurance is completely pointless too.

jesse_adultdatingdollars 11-29-2010 07:57 AM

totally useless

Holy shit that would would drive me insane to have pics like that and the cops still not able to catch the guy. Do you live in a big city? I would be tempted to print those pics up and put them on fliers all over the place offering a cash reward for info / identification.

Insurance covered your losses at least, right?

I live out in the country. I put a small copy of the pic in a local newspaper with a link to a website with more information and bigger pics and offered a reward, but never really got any response.

I think these thieves usually come from the larger city that is about an hour away, or from the Indian reserve that is near by it. Pretty much impossible to catch them unless you are able to get one of their friends to turn them in for a reward.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that shit. I caught my tree guy casing my house twice at night in the last few weeks, it's had me on edge. At least if I do get robbed I'll know who did it, not that it's any comfort.

My new security system just arrived in the mail today, so I should hopefully have that up and running before the end of the week. Professional monitoring is of no use because it takes the police so long to arrive after a call, so this system I bought will call my cell phone whenever an alarm goes off, plus it will send me an email.

My cameras had motion detectors too that would email me, but there were too many false positives so I couldn't have them sent to my cell phone or it would be ringing all day. Hopefully this alarm helps.

It has a 110 db outdoor siren too, but my neighbours are about 1/4 mile away, and they don't like me.

Tom_PM 11-29-2010 09:46 AM

Wow thats awful. Those are the type of cameras that are installed to increase your rent because now you feel secure.

SmokeyTheBear 11-29-2010 10:40 AM

even grainy like that theres always clues. Watch close at the beginning looks like he did a double take at the first house as he enters the screen ( not the glitch), almost like he walked back and forth for a second " looking to see if anyone was watching" , this tells you he probably knows the car he is going to key several cars before he gets to it.. the only way he would know that, is if your car is the target , i.e. this isn't random , and most likely a neighbour or he wouldnt be that concerned if anyone was watching. also i dont know the street layout but watch closely at the end , he walks past your car , stops for a sec keys it , continues on down middle of road, goes behing white thing behind your car , re-appears on top left of screen, goes between 2 houses, that doesnt look like the end of the street yet, it looks like he is going to the second to last house on the top left

Those pics should be able to identify the guy if he has a record. Especially if you're in a smaller area.

Yeah except in poland apartment buildings have several entrances. Each entrance has stairs with apartments on either side. Theres 6 or 7 apartments in the place he entered. I know he went in the last stair case actually not second to last (theres 3 there only). Except that doesn't help at all. It's not like if I start knocking on doors some pixelated guy is gonna come out.

That's pretty hardcore, I like. I live in the suburbs so I wouldn't need quite that much, but I have been thinking about getting some cams and linking them to my phone so I can tap in when I'm away.

We don't really care for our immediate next door neighbors, particularly not the ones directly across the street, but when I caught the guy outside our house after dark for the second time Wednesday I met with each of them personally to make them aware of the situation. I pretty much told him he's no longer welcome on our property and told the neighbors if they see him lurking around just to be safe and call the police.

Short of that I'm not sure what else I can do. Really my biggest worry, and it may be an unreasonable one, is that someone will break in while we're away and harm our dogs. We have two small dogs and they can be super yappy at strangers. I don't think anyone would ham them just to harm them but maybe to silence them wile in the house :(
