Best airport in USA?

What is the best USA airport you have used? I am not sure who I would say is my best but I do know it sure isn't Philly. I fly into and out of that one more than any other USA airport and it is never impressive.

alexchechs 11-29-2010 12:20 PM

For food I actually think the Houston airport is the best. The place is huge and has alot of good places to eat. In terms of convenience I have to go with Burbank. It's so much better than flying into LAX

Verbal 11-29-2010 12:20 PM

Think Tampa International is great

my favorite airport is austin by far ...live music most of the time .. awesome food ... everything is organized .. no long waits

PHL is a mess. I fly out of a small airport in Harrisburg and is great, but always have a connection into PHL or CLT.

Personally, I like LAX. Terminals are smaller so your not running all over the place if its a gate change

bushwacker 11-29-2010 12:46 PM

Ft. Lauderdale hollywood international is good. Miami is a complete shithole. Chicago ohara ranks right up there with miami.

Evil Chris 11-29-2010 12:50 PM

Dallas/Fort Worth.

It's all shiny and new with very nice shops and restuarants. They move people around from terminal to terminal on elevated trains.

In contrast, GWB airport in Houston stinks. Literally smells bad everywhere.

Juicy D. Links 11-29-2010 12:52 PM

JFK is the best Laguardia is second

hehehehehe

Atticus 11-29-2010 01:01 PM

I would vote Portland. Always clean, great places to eat, well thought out.

For a bigger airport, Phoenix is also nice.

For retro Brady Bunch cool, The Honolulu airport rocks.

JFK 11-29-2010 01:03 PM

I like Charlotte NC, pleasant atmosphere:thumbsup

Plus the rocking chairs and pulled pork sandwich in the food court... hmmmmmm :thumbsup

myneid 11-29-2010 01:07 PM

i'd go with dallas ft worth too, theres lots of places to eat and shop if you are on a long delay and its pretty easy to get from terminal to terminal

MaDalton 11-29-2010 01:10 PM

definitely not Washington...

but in general they all suck now ;)

GTS Mark 11-29-2010 01:11 PM

I agree the Dallas airport is excellent, also the Detroit airport funny enough is pretty good too!

Best international airport has to be schipol in amsterdam.

pornguy 11-29-2010 01:12 PM

Tampa used to be good. Not sure now.

quiet 11-29-2010 01:18 PM

I agree with you here but International wise, I don't like landing there..

amateurbfs 11-29-2010 01:23 PM

DFW is my pick as well.

Love the rocking chairs and the live piano music:winkwink:

baddog 11-29-2010 01:46 PM

I have to go with LAX followed by MDW, but it could be familiarity.

dynastoned 11-29-2010 01:54 PM

dallas would be my pick. philly was the worst.

quiet 11-29-2010 02:01 PM

how about worst? suprisingly, i think Tokyo is the worst, at least in the security section (i've never been outside it). there is almost nothing there at all, no info centers, no english, nothing to eat or drink, straight up sucks. Buenos Aires airport sucks pretty bad too, depending what section you are in. and then there are the smaller airports in Laos and Thailand, pretty much all lick balls. Bangkok airports are nice though.

quiet 11-29-2010 02:02 PM

oh yeah, and heathrow blows too, not the airport itself, just the fucking lines and security.

Pretty sure none of those are considered in the USA, but I haven't been to them, so can not be positive.

TylerBang 11-29-2010 02:29 PM

Oslo is neat and organized, has a mini T.G.I.F.s. and the waitresses are always cute.

For speed, I use Long Beach Airport. Literally takes a minute to get in and out.

note: Yes, I know Ontario is closer, but I spend time in L.A. before I drive home.

Sarah_Jayne 11-29-2010 02:50 PM

Terminal 5 is way better than the rest of Hearhrow but the airport still sucks.

Philly has rocking chairs too.

i've flown out of detroit plenty and never had a problem, think it has more to do with northwest though.. No traffic getting there hardly either, which is what makes toronto so shitty.. almost miss your plain with that alone..

lol, i was taking some liberty as this thread has seemed to have expanded a bit. worst in USA proper, i would say JFK.

Rochard 11-29-2010 03:11 PM

I've only flown into Atlanta once, but I thought it was impressive - big, yet easy to figure out. Loved the the fucking huge escalators they had!

I live in Sacramento, so I use it all the time. I love our airport. It's small, but large enough. Meaning, it's a full airport, but easy to get around in, hard to get lost in, and easy to get in and out of.

Phoenix must be the worst.

Peaches 11-29-2010 03:46 PM

I like the smaller airports. Being able to get from the car to the gate w/o having to pack a lunch after living in ATL for so long is really desirable. SNA and the small airports in FL rock.

I used to fly into HHH at least once a month before Eastern went under. They had an airport bird, cat and dog. My pilot also worked at the car rental counter. They had a handheld metal detector. It was like "Wings" ;) They'd also hold the plane for you if you were running late!

I like LAS because of the slot machines - I never minded waiting for a flight :) I like KOA because the flight in and out is so gorgeous.

I don't like ORD, ATL, DFW - too big.

There are very few airports that I feel are worse than Atlanta.

The Heron 11-29-2010 03:50 PM

Any airport that only has 1 flight per day is usually pretty good.
I've grown to tolerate DTW as far as big airports go.

So does San Diego.

ATL is oddly not a bad place to meet people outside security for food/drinks. It's when you have to catch a flight that going from A32 to D1 is an overnight trip. :helpme

D Ghost 11-29-2010 04:53 PM

None, they all have been taken over by the TSA.

mineistaken 11-29-2010 06:42 PM

If I could fly into the Allentown airport rather than Philly I would because it is so much easier. It is just that I would have to change planes so many times to do it it is pointless.

It is the same deal with smaller airports in the UK though. A couple times this year I have flown from places like London City airport or Liverpool (yes, honestly called the John Lennon airport) and they have been so much better just because of their smaller size.

SimonScans 11-30-2010 05:59 AM

The best airport in the USA, by far is DENVER. I have never been there, but it looks interesting...

alternatively, the best would be the closest one to where you are going.

Or maybe bob hope airport, just cause it's funny. Not as funny as John Lennon airport, but close.

thickcash_amo 11-30-2010 06:05 AM

I love the Orlando airport to look at because of the big hotel that sits right in the middle, but all airports suck in general.

CurrentlySober 11-30-2010 08:02 AM

i like airports

Evil Chris 11-30-2010 08:36 AM

Hey I know you say USA, but the Montreal airport is pretty damn nice now.

They just finished a whole new USA section where pre-clearances of US Customs is now very streamlined and effective. All new shops and restaurants inside too. Finally done, and worth the wait.

quiet 11-30-2010 08:40 AM

yeah MTL airport is really nice. Vancouver is great too, super clean, lots of services.

potter 11-30-2010 08:43 AM

The newer the better, because there is really is a lot behind the design and organization of an airport's layout.

I love O'Hare, but it really is a terrible airport because it's laid out so friggin retarded.

Then you look at something like Denver, which is practically brand new. And it is laid out spectacular.

SuzzyQ 11-30-2010 08:53 AM

For a smaller airport, BTV is great. it takes 15 mins or less to get from the parking lot to the gate and that includes security.

_andy_ 11-30-2010 09:09 AM

I am always happy to arrive back in Denver. It's open and spacious. It's got soothing water fountains too.

DateDoc 11-30-2010 09:26 AM

Been thru SeaTac and San Jose lately. Both very clean and easy to get around.

LAJ 11-30-2010 11:18 AM

My local airport in Austin is the best. Small, easy to get around, good food, live bands, quick lines thru security, friendly, almost always on time departures and landings, and direct flights to almost anywhere I need to go.

Babaganoosh 11-30-2010 11:27 AM

Denver
DFW
Charlotte

When I fly I leave from Charlotte. Sometimes I try to get there way too early so I can chill after getting through security.

Tom_PM 11-30-2010 11:47 AM

Confucious say, there are no best airports. Or possibly the one that leads to long awaited home.

I remember pittsburg seeming pretty nice. That was long ago though before everyone went crazy.

I have never had a pleasant experience at O'Hare. The last time I was at Denver they were still building the new part and it was a pain to get around.
