need accurate bandwidth speed test

my day revolves around speed, the faster my upload speed the quicker I get my normal day to day work done and have more time for developing new marketing avenues and finding new opportunities through research.

I have tried many speed tests and get vastly varying results.

Location - Chicago this week (same problem with Sarasota, FL)

bandwidthplace.com - 9.55 Mbps
speedtest.net - 11.69 Mbps
reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-test - 1.86 Mbps
dslreports.com/speedtest?flash=1 - 5.85 Mbps
business.comcast.com/internet/speed-comparison.aspx - 17.36 Mbps

I realize that each has a different city, hub, region, that it tests from, BUT, there should not be such a huge variation.

MY QUESTION: what is the most accurate speed test site (URL)?

thanks.

All those speed test sites are bullshit to begin with.
What matters is the speed to where you want it to actually matter.
NOT to some random speed test website.

Also, not sure why doing all these speed tests would some how help you do your work quicker.

If you want the fastest speed then move to a place that has fiber internet - like Verizon FiOS or Cablevision or Comcast 50Mbps or whatever.

Speed tests? I just upload to multiple sites at once. I don't are about no fucking speed - I open multiple instances of my FTP program and fire away.

Uploads are always complete by the time I'm done working.

I want an accurate speed test because I am getting ready to buy the highest upgrade my ISP can provide, but I want to test it to make sure that I am getting what I pay for.

Also, I have to upload to many tube sites which takes time and I do not use my FTP for this purpose.

your dsl/cable speeds are only guaranteed til your packets hit the internet, and speeds vary with servers/area/congestion/etc.

Pick the closest test server to you.

So you want to test that you are getting the actual upload capacity?
#1. they don't guarantee it
#2. simply upload to the tube sites all at once and calculate what your total usage is by looking at your network monitor in Windows Task Manager.

If your total upload usage is at whatever megabit the ISP is promising then viola ...

Speed test site will not do shit for you
