Lets keep in simple.

1. Creating porn is easy and cheap so their is way more content then any one can whak all day
2. Thanks to 3rd wold legal system you can pirate as much as content and give it away free and nothing can be done.
3. As site owners we look for that one stupid horny surfer who pays for porn and forgot to un-check those 3 cross-selss at 40/bucks a month

Point #3 is what perplexes me. Are there that many people that still pay for porn? Even Uncle Jimmy knows how to download free porn.

As someone who is working on huge adult animation project, I'm very worried about just having it ripped off and copied all over the torrent sites.

It seems this guy gets whats wrong with the online industry as well:

Sir, I could debate this issue back and forth with you all day, and we could come up with 1,001 brilliant new ideas to help and improve the industry...but the problem would be getting the enlightened minds that make up the industry to even consider adopting them.

Paysites should switch to a pay-per-scene model rather than the everything-we-have-got-for-$30 business model for the following reasons.

1) Maintains content value. $30 for 30 scenes equals a dollar a scene. Come back in 30 weeks time, the site now has 60 scenes, yet still charges $30, so now it becomes fifty cents a scene...and on and on until there is not a coin in the land small enough to buy just one scene. With a fixed price/single scene model, what is worth five bucks now will be worth five bucks in 30, 60, 90 weeks.

2) Minimises piracy. It's not like some bastard can just rip your entire site off for one low fee. Also, it heads off the situation where the surfer just wants one scene/girl from a site, but can't rationalise paying $30 for it and so goes and looks for a free download as they have no other option. It also means the surfer pays only for what they want.

My other big bugbears:

Professionalism: The industry needs some sort of regulatory or industry body to start pushing initiatives to make the industry more professional. A good start would be some sort of unified sales charts for DVD, VOD, etc. and awards based on sales/merit rather than advertising payola.

Does the multi-billion dollar porn industry have a lobbyist? Maybe they should think about getting one?

Also, try getting some sales and marketing professionals in from outside the industry to give some seminars and whatnot. It's mind boggling to see how many supposedly major studios can't even be bothered to run a simple opt-in mailing list via email.

In an age of piracy, why is nothing being done to foster customer loyalty, like coupon mail-in offers? You buy a certain number of a certain company's titles a year, you send in your coupons and a check to cover shipping and handling, and you get a limited edition DVD, perhaps signed by some of the talent involved? If any comics fans are reading this, let me say that perhaps the adult industry could take a leaf out of the Valiant Comics playbook (before Jim Shooter left). This is why I find Evil Angel's 'Defend Our Porn' DVD to be so disappointing...sure, it's for a good cause, and it's a veritable highlight reel of gonzo porn, but wouldn't it have been a damn sight more interesting if it was all brand new scenes? I tend to think so.

Also, it's about time the industry starting cutting the balls off of companies that support filesharing sites through advertising dollars like Brazzers and Adult Friend Finder. Fuck 'em.

Finally, testing for herpes and pooling of talent with regards to herpes status. How about being proactive rather than reactive for a change?

That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more to come...

In order for good changes to be made, the bad mistakes have to be exposed. Nothing more, nothing less. The funny thing is this is the only place where it has been knocked....perhaps because the majority of the problems are those that propagate this forum?

Don't work to a niche as such, however if I had to answer, then it would have to be solo softcore wetlook... However I have been involved in ALL aspects of the adult industry, for my entire working life. (Im now 39)

For example, in the past I have (In no specific order)

Overseen my wife's porn career which lasted for over 5 years, and she appeared in over 500 movies...
I have dealt with agents / photographers / studios etc all over the world...
I Ran her website for her and shot all the content, plus did the promotion...
I have attended the AVNs W/A LA and the 'Hot D'our' awards at the Cannes film festival on multiple occasions...
I have managed a 36,000ft porn production studio, in downtown LA dealing with the building of sets, the overall organisation of the place, and the taking of bookings from Vivid, Private USA, and most of the big companies and directors, based in the valley...
I also built and ran their website...
I played a key role in organising a porn convention in 2004, and built the website, which raised money for the ASACP...
I built and ran the website, and did all the online promo for california's largest swingers club, plus helped with the actual organization for over a year...
I built the website and dealt with the bookings at the swing clubs owners private hotel in palm springs.
I have shot and photographed models for publication in UK magazines...
I've Worked for the softcore UK satellite channels...
I was involved in running a network of over 100 porn sites back in 2002...
I currently do all sorts of consulting for people starting out...

And that's just off the top of my head...
