And while I'm at it - let me say a few words about the quality of the video on Playboy.com. As someone who has been investing heavily in HD camera gear, HD post-production and HD education in general, I can't believe some of the stuff I'm seeing on Playboy.com. The colors are flat and the contrast is flat. It's like they captured the footage to the computer and threw it right up on the site...with little to no regard for color correcting or enhancing the footage. My CaptureGirls HD footage looks 20 times better then most of the footage on Playboy.com and I'm a one-man operation. I shoot it, edit it, color correct it and enhance it all myself. Does it take money? No! It simply takes having pride in your work...that's all! If I can do this - surely Playboy can do this!

By the way, I'm available for consultations if Playboy needs my services My clients don't do business with me because I'm cheap.....they do business with me because I have an eye for quality and I take pride in my work. This is something that seems to be sorely lacking with my friends at Playboy.com

I'd end up telling someone to go fuck themselves and I'd be right back where I am now. Shooting some of the hottest girls in the industry for some of the largest and most successful websites in the world. I got a nice life, don't need Playboy for anything

Dean your right.. without Arny and Steve, the quality of Playboy is poor to say the least.. I cant believe some of the poor pics for the Playmates they are doing in the "extras" each month, i sometimes think I could get my throw away camera and produce better pics, and i have no fucking idea how to take a photo. When u have girls that are soooo fucking hot, one needs to give them the quality output they deserver

Yeah he's very good. He has a good eye. Educated in photography. He worked for one of the biggest commercial studios here in Chicago. He knows what he's doing... I've been friends with him for a long time now... he has a good eye for beautiful girls. He's gonna be running around doing casting stuff too.

They don't have anyone over there that cares about quality. In fact, there is almost no-one in this entire industry that cares about quality. Playboy's Video has been pathetic for many years. Back in the day they actually used mainstream directors and cinematographers to capture quality. But that ended in the early 90s. They didn't want to pay for it. Hugh appreciates quality and has always been a big supporter of artists. They have been showcased through the years in the magazine and even lived at the mansion. Painters, writers, photographers, filmmakers. But he does not care anymore and is not making those decisions. Its also too big a corporation now. There are many fearful people working there who are afraid for their jobs and are scared to change. I see it all the time.

Don't worry. Quality work will always rise to the top and there will always be a place for it. High end photography, and more so video, in these industry will be coming in a big way after this recession. With the tech that is coming out now we are in a position to do some stuff in adult that has never been seen before. This will sell.

It is a lot harder to sell Ferraris than it is to sell Honda Civics, and you can sell a lot more Hondas, but I would rather sell a few Ferraris personally. And hey, there is less competition at the top

dean shoots some of the top 1% of photography that i've seen here and elsewhere. he knows his shit. Playboy hasn't had it in years and a $2 stock price today verifies that. That old model couldn't make their cover 10 years ago and Hef doesn't run the company anymore. Kudos to Dean for speaking his mind on the photos.

Penthouse will resurface faster than PB in this world. What grabs you on their website anyway? $25/mo for softcore fluff pieces and glamour shots? Tons on online places for that.

Ummm... just for the record and hopefully add some perspective in this... Playboy's most popular cable program for over 10 years is "Naughty Amateur Home Videos". It is also one of their stickiest and best converting web properties to my understanding.

And I can personally guarantee that it is some of the lowest production quality in the whole Playboy library.

Your post is not clear (to me) but .. Penthouse is the heyday had big production shoots by the likes of J Stephen Hicks, Hank Londoner, and Earl Miller. They were lots of lights, lots of makeup, great sets or locations, and very high production quality. Almost every issue had a black and white set shot in Europe. There sales went DOWN and they lost a lot of advertisers when they went harder and sluttier. That was the beginning of their downfall. I know this firsthand.

I've been saddened to see Playboy bring in more tats and piercings. However it's probably hard to not have any these days.

The biggest problem I see with that image is the quality of the lighting. I remember being awed by the sheer number of lights in use for a centerfold. Is there even a key light in use in that shot?
