Just a simple script that runs through the fusker #'s and reports them as "illegal" so they get removed. Most of the bigger fusker sites now have an image verify box now so it makes automation impossible. This site doesn't though.

Nope. His name was the first one mentioned so that is why I am curious to see his reply.

I would like to see the replies of any sponsor who profits from stolen traffic.

It is very easy for smaller website to get burned by the "fusker-like" activity. Not only do we lose sales, but the bandwidth overages can can mean the difference between having a profitable month and going in the hole.

Hot-linking sites are bad for business and the people who run than are only slightly better than the people who support them.

fris, I have all the hotlinking protection up, but new fusker sites appear on a daily basis, and they all suck traffic away. Some of the more inventive sites (not fusker) fuck the headers so that htaccess is less effective.

I shouldn't have to stand next to my server with a gun to keep people from stealing from me, and I would think that the good and honest people (relative term, I know) of this business would take a stand and not accept traffic and financially reward people who's entire business model is based on stealing from people who don't lock the doors tight enough and don't post a security guard.

To me it just seems obvious... maybe I am just missing something.

The issue is companies that act like they are good citizens, and then turn around and send checks to sites that steal from others to make money. They violate copyright, steal bandwidth (which means others incur costs), and generally steal from everyone.

Juicy, let me give you a simple hint:

Get your programmers to write a little program that goes out and scans refering pages for terms like "fusker" or "password" or "lolita" or similar in the refering URL. You will save yourself much grief in life if you ACTIVELY look for these troubles, rather than waiting for something to come out here.

Fusker is a blight on our industry, and anything to lower their value in life is an improvement.

Its nearly impossible, unless every client browser is configured not to send the referrer header, in accordance with the HTTP spec.


I know of one way to get around this, but I haven't seen a single fusker using it (and I've seen thousands of fuskers in my logs)
