WASHINGTON - Although conservative groups attacked the idea and international regulators nixed it, Sen. Mark Pryor said Wednesday he would continue his effort to create an Internet designation specifically for pornography.

Pryor, D-Ark., said the ".xxx" domain name would protect children from pornographic Web sites. Opponents like the Family Research Council said a specialized domain would create a virtual "red light district."

Pryor was unhappy with ICANN's unwillingness to approve the domain and he pressed for progress toward its creation during a Senate subcommittee hearing Wednesday.

Pryor and Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., introduced the Cyber Safety for Kids Act in March. The act would require the Commerce Department to develop the designation in cooperation with ICANN.

That bill remains in committee.

the May (?) ICANN decision to officially reject the .xxx domain was one of the best things that happened this year to me


I'm not really stressed about this Senator, but I think we should still keep a closer look at this proposed bill. And also remember that the guys from the ICM Registry aren't totally giving up yet...
