BREAKING NEWS: I changed my prediction regarding .xxx (read if you care about .XXX)

just yesterday I said I give .xxx 35% to be approved, even though most people involved in the .xxx debates on this board tend to say recently that they think ".xxx will be approved"

I guess today I should give it no more than 30%

regardless what you people are saying about behind the scenes deals etc, regardless of the rumors that ".xxx is a done deal" my impression from sources that i can't name here is that the ICANN board is far from being convinced that .XXX is good

also a SPECIAL NOTE to everyone attending Xbiz in 2 days - i read some people (Mike Hawk?) saying that they are heavily anti-.XXX but they are not even planning to attend the seminar with the ICM guys (because they think it will make no difference) so... I don't want to tell anyone what to do, but I would suggest that everyone who's against .XXX attends this event and voices their opposition as loud as possible

    I don't use ICQ anymore.

After collecting as much information as possible myself, I changed my mind as well. There maybe deals we don't know about it, but the strong opposition against .xxx doesn't seem to come from the adult industry itself only, looks we got support from those who hate us most...

Who cares, more sites for the adult industry. Yippee.

It will pass and life goes on. Quit bitching on a message board and get to work if you want to succeed.

Actually i mean sth else... unlike other people think, I think (or know) that in fact the adult industry's opposition towards ICM's proposal IS important to ICANN. Surely, its not the most important thing, or not the only thing, but they DO CARE more about our opinions than we think.

they are also aware of the xbiz conference... so ideally the opposition towards .xxx would be as strong as possible at xbiz

ahh.. i forgot that at xbiz you'll be only allowed to ask questions, if you can register muslims.xxx or not. But I still hope the opposition will be clear.

thats all on the topic, and yes, I believe .xxx will be declined and it's not only wishfull thinking, although it's also far from being declined. Im basically saying, I think its more likely that they will decline it, than that they will accept it.

And although most of you didnt meet me face to face, that doesnt change the fact that i spent truly a lot time keeping a very close eye on .xxx and i have lots of info on it.
            I don't use ICQ anymore.

contact Dotser for a good deal, they should give you $7.95 per domain (if Im not mistaken) as opposed to the usual $15 or whatever their standard price is

I'm thinking of registering 100 .info domains since they're $0.77 right now, and then a year from now renewing the ones that get traffic and letting the others expire

                so it's basically $15.00 normally

anyway, I guess I can always transfer them to namecheap

you should know better than to make such a comment.. i have answered very clearly that anyone can ask any quesiton they want, there is no limits imposed by ICM.

What you are taking out of context about muslim.xxx is about how the rules of registering are not as straightforward as you may think, that there are exceptions.

what i have posted recently in my thread about calling for questions, is that i will be asking the question that all webmasters want to know.. and i fully expect no answer will be given, and i will move on to my list of questions.

.XXX is not a done deal.. the battle right now is at a level above us.. it is not at the level of whether its .good vs .bad to have it, its about policies and how various countries are looking at it, beyond the perspective of webmasters of thinking its a method of mandatory corralling.

I do believe that many of the objections of .XXX by GAC has been resolved.

Did you read through all of the docs? I did last night, and if you weren't in the adult biz and affected by .XXX, it would read that issues were being addressed.

Canada's opposition to .XXX is a great indicator that there is discourse with ICANN and this TLD registration.

The battle is above us, and that battle is what will determine if .XXX gets approved.

In the meantime, understanding what .XXX is about, gives those who are going to be making the business decision to purchase .XXX domains, the information to atleast understand what they are buying into.

If you aren't going to buy .XXX domains, then all of this discussion is pointlesss, but there are alot of webmasters who are interested in buying .XXX domains, and with business, I don't believe ignorance is bliss.

I don't think that ICANN wants to end up in a legal struggle with the US government. If the .XXX domains are approved, I would expect the US to make moves to block them for some reason or another, and this could drag into court for years.

I think ICANN keeps floating it trying to find support, but in the end, they realize it doesn't work and is going to be a major hassle to implement.

Without legislations to drive porn companies to the .xxx domains, they serve not purpose except perhaps to shave the sheep and line the pockets of the company promoting them.

thanks for the reply and Im sorry for my Xbiz comment, that was a spontaneous post

personally I still think that your approach looks like "we can not do much more at this time, so let's assume the worst case and prepare for that".

In my opinion, that not only is not necessarly true (as I said at the beginning of my post there are chances ICANN will simply vote down or reject .xxx again) but I also think, that if ICANN approved .xxx now, then there could be an adult industry trade show focusing on such details like the specifics of registrations, the IFFOR's best business practices.

I mean, IMO, if at this time, ICANN can either approve or reject .xxx and the chances are 50:50% (in my opinion the chances are better for us, but you apparently think the opposite), then we should not assume yet that there will be an .xxx.

Should ICANN approve .xxx in two weeks, then at the next show, the ICM guys would be invited, to discuss all the specifics.

Its obvious that from the moment ICANN would approve .xxx to the moment until .xxx goes live, a good few months would be gone anyway - so that would be enough time to get informed properly about all the details.

Anyway, no point in debating it further. I was actually going to relax today and forget about .xxx (not open GFY for the next two days)

Not sure what you want to talk about on ICQ since Im not going to be at xbiz, neither do i have any insiders in ICANN (not sure if that is what my first post suggested). Personally I say whatever I tink about this issue here, but I'm open to an ICQ chat with you. Feel free to ICQ me whenever it best suits you - 171130893

                            bump for this thread

although the first post may had been a little too enthusiastic (honestly, its hard to give any kind of predictions in % ) the two main things still apply

                            - .xxx is far from approved
                            - ICANN is aware of Xbiz and in the same time aware that the people holding this Xbiz seminar about .xxx, are all against it

so whoever is attending the seminar, should make sure to voice his opposition there as well :D
