ASACP Comments on Child Protection Provisions of Proposed .xxx TLD

Lots of last minute posting to ICANN. ASACP posted their statement:
    http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-icm.../msg01592.html

    Highlights from the post:

Our organization has officially been neutral on the question of whether or
not ICANN should approve ICM's proposal for a .xxx top-level domain, since
we consider either endorsement or opposition to be outside of our mission.

    SUMMARY

No doubt, considerations unrelated to child protection will influence your
decision about whether to approve the proposed .xxx TLD. However, ASACP's
position is that the existence of a .xxx TLD will not enhance the industry's
ongoing voluntary efforts to protect children.

ASACP therefore recommends that ICANN avoid taking any action based upon or influenced by the incorrect assumption that a .xxx TLD would further help to protect children online.

yup, it would not help. everyone knows that, its like saying, ban guns, then those who want to kill people will not use them because it is illegal. hmm someone who wants to kill someone will not use the gun because its illegal LOL

it is like saying, CP webmasters will not post CP on the net because they need to, or should, use dot xxx....its just stupid to think they would.

          Its about money

exactly, which is why ASACP is responding very clearly to ICANN that .XXX has been touted as protecting children and ICM has never proven any solid evidence or method that .XXX can do what it says.

.KIDS is the 100% best method for keeping kids from seeing adult material (other than having 100% parent supervision) , since their web browsers would ONLY be able to view sites that had the approved .KIDS extension.

Pedofiles are laughing too.. they don't need domains to post up their stuff, besides p2p, they just use free hosting sites, many of which are in the U.S. and some owned by publically traded companies.

I think ASACP made it very clear what their view is on this matter and that the .XXX will NOT help in any way, shape or form to protect children from the most dominant threat of them all - Child Pornography.

My personal opinion is that the rest of the job of keeping legal porn away from children is THE PARENTS.

                IMHO

I agree, and I'm appreciative that ASACP posted their recommendation to REJECT .xxx

This should end the .xxx initiative once and for all.

I mean, unless someone can disprove ASACP's assertion, there is no longer any legitimate reason to implement xxx.

                      Right?

This should be the knockout punch to end any chance ICM had of winning the fight.

Oh it can be used to stop children from seeing the sites. But it would be used to simply block the sites from being seen by anyone.
