Pathfinder is dead

My father died in his sleep last night. It is believed that he had a stroke.

His computer was still on this morning and his browser was opened to this board.

He had spoke laughingly about the GFY board, as being the most insane board on the net.

I don't know how many of you actually knew my father but I will tell you something about him.

He served his country in the military for more than thirty years, from Korea to Vietnam.

He was one of America's most decorated soldiers.

He was nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor, but was awarded the Distinquished Service Cross instead.

He was awarded five Silver Stars, six Bronze Stars with V for valor, four Bronze stars without V for valor, and eight purple hearts.

He was a big man, a strong man, and the best father a son could have. I respected him and loved him dearly.

He left a rather extensive inheritence and a self sustaining foundation that will provide educational grants for the orphans of soldiers that died in battle.

He requested that he be cremated and instead of being buried in Arlington he wanted his ashes spread in Korea, and I will abide by his wishes.

If it's true .. It's a shame - but it just seems odd to me to post here. especially within hours of his death. A guess that's a tribute to how much GFY meant to him. ?

When my mother - in - law died home alone - we didn't even know it for 5 days - then we had to deal with LA county coroner, Long Beach police, funeral arrangements, neighbors, family, grieving & cleaning. Lots of important stuff you have to do.

I'm going to tell my family right now ... to write the obit for the newspaper at least, before they post on GFY that I'm dead.

I assure you that my father is dead. Some of you I know, met him personally as he went to a convention about three years ago, I think, and I think in Las Vegas, and he told me about meeting some of you.

I kind of mis-stated when I spoke of an inheiritance. I meant he left an inheiritance to a foundation that he had established a few years ago, after he had his first stroke.

Some of you wonder why I would take the time to post to this board about his death. His browser was open to this board. He spoke about this board alot and some of the hilarity on this board, and I though some of you that had met him would like to know that he has passed on.

My father was a methodical man, and all arrangements were already in place, so there is not alot to be done. I have notified my siblings and they are on their way. My mother is holding up very well and is quite a strong woman. This was not an unexpected event, my father has had several strokes over the last few years.

As for me, and my grief, my father always told me to take control of your emotions, and you will find life to be easier.

For those of you that have expressed condolences, I thank you. For those of you that have sent E-mails expressing your condolences, I thank you.

People do post on message boards to let others know someone close has passed away. I've seen it before. If it's true then it's a terrible shame. Whether it is or not, it does put everything into perspective.
