One of the hardest things to do when starting a network OR developing a new one from the ground up, is generating quality inbounds links to the domain you are trying to rank for terms. These sites (our target domain we want to rank) I will call money sites for the rest of this post, for the simple reason that these are the sites we want to get ranked, and fed a constant supply of search engine traffic too for profit.
I am not going to go to far into the actual value of links, how the linking can affect the rank, or too many specifics. Instead just go over a couple smart and effective ways to generate valid, relevant, and honest backlinks into your newly developed/released money sites.
I assume that you have a couple things here, normal things that any webmaster would have, for example, some domains, some hosting, and some time at the desk.
There are several other ways to generate quality long term backlinks, but they all evolves around roughly the same thing, generate some feeder sites, utilize the link power on them to trade links and multiply the value of them by turning them into 20 times as many unique backlinks. And also it evolves around spending the time and making it a habit to search for and monitor your trades.
Is it worth it? If you are successful, your money sites are in for a several month to several year stay in the engines. Just keep your money sites clean, and unique, and your feeder sites fresh and worth trading with. Trade with sites that are quality, and continue to generate fresh new sites and inbound links to the sites, and it will pay dividends for years.
In no time at all you can push up several money sites and have long paying search results and traffic from your efforts. It isn't rocket science, its only link generation.

- Turning 10 old/forgotten/bought websites into 200 quality inbound links. - This is definitely one of my favorites and is always effective for any niche or target group of keywords. Use 10 of your old or recently bought *old* domains (preferably with some Page Rank (link bait to traders really) and put either some html landing pages, or install wordpress and some blogs on them. Take some time, do them right, make them look good. Its better to write 2 posts on each and forget them then it is to spam rss feed shit on them. You don't even have to link up your 'money site' on these, instead, you are going to trade about 20 links on each of these sites with other webmasters who have niches you want links from. This will take a little time, but this forum, and many other forums offer great link finding resources, also Link Organiser and Thunder-ball.net for trades, get a bookmark folder going, and do your rounds everyday, you will be surprised how efficient it will get to be.
And again, make them look nice, you aren't trying to stiff anyone or offer shit links for good ones, but you can trade as many times as you want, but using 20 is a solid number (and a good number to make sure the sites you request links on is around as well). I have used this technique and looking right now, I have about 2000-2200 links inbound from unique websites linking to me, from this very method. (totally outweighs my 200 sites if I just linked myself up)
- Turning 10 free hosted blogs into 200 quality inbound links. This is a no brainer for anyone who is serious about generating some link power and authority to their websites. Create 10 (naturally more) blogs at great places like thumblogger and smut.com and much like above, make them nice, add some fresh hand wrote posts, and generate some links. For these, since they are brand new, will not have any link power, but simply submitting them to the blog directories (some way better then others) will push you rank on these sites to bait with in 2-3 months max. While you wait for your rank updates to make trading seem more worthy on these freesites, you will still collect traffic from them, and utilize them to trade as the opportunity arises. - Using blogs to trade plugs to the bank. - Pretty basic concept here. Take your 10 sites from above and offer to trade blog posts or plugs to your money site. You let them post on whichever of the freesites/blogs appeals to them, and in return, you get a plug or post on a blog of theirs that suits your fancy. (the best spidered, most unique and relevant one you see). If you have done whats done in step 1, and step 2, you have 20 decent sites to offer out posts on and can easily attain some viable trade off's. These turn into very nice aged internal links over the years and looks great in your 'arsenal' when g00gle looks at the big picture.
- Directories, Social Bookmarking, Viral Marketing etc. - This one should be a no brainer, but to generate quality and quantity backlinks into your money sites you want to keep all bookmarking sites and feed readers etc updated, lots of posts on this forum and all over the web about different readers and submitters, also plenty of social type plugins to let social sites know when your site has updated. These hold great value not only in the fact that many link back, but they have a large blog readers base, so with a good listing in them, you can bank on several of these bloggers to occasionally link you up after they saw you here.
Wikipedia is GREAT for this in mainstream. Although they no-follow links at wikipedia, if your site is genuine, and has VALUE, the links from wiki will stay up forever, and over time you will notice numorous links from all over the web, sometimes .edu personal pages, or other blogs, but people who found your link on wiki, and linked you up. I have several pr5 mainstream domains and most have just a directory listing and 2-3 yr old links on wikipedia. (go figure
) These sites are informative, have something unique to offer, and are right on point for the viewers, definitely a lesson to be learned there.
- Check for trades, look for trades every couple days. - Once you get yourself a list of places to trade links, ie thunderball or links organizer you can start stalking the link trade forums on 15-20 boards a day in a few minutes, fire off preformatted (for the most part) emails to webmasters, request links in posts, on thunder-ball , linkex if you must, whatever, but work the links, use the feeder sites you created to generate hardcore links to your money site.
