I am thinking Amateur pays as well as any niche but you will have to work. Im thinking its not as easy to break into the market as it was years ago but with the right skills and dedication it can be done. Plan smartly so you dont waste time making too many mistakes. Read alot of boards.

Agreed. It's not even about how "good looking" she is, it's about your ability to market and build her brand. If you're going to step out on your own with your own pay site you;ve got to be ready to throw yourselves into it if you want to really make a dent. If you're looking at this more of as a hobby you might be better off going with an established amateur network and then breaking out when you're confident this is what you both want to do.

If you want to start out, and are only half committed or want to see if it will fly first. Do not spend shit out of pocket.

You need to go to B-H-E. They provide you a shared revenue model for hosting and site. Sure, their CMS is not to spicy. But, you get free hosting and billing. No $750.00 VISA fees, etc.

Now, if you make money. They get 50%. If you do not make money. You pay for the domain name.

Once you start making money, then you go start a website of your own, with your own hosting, CMS, pay your processing fees, etc.. When you are new, and if you do not know if you are going to be serious about this, if the idea will succeed or fail. You need to limit your expenses.

This is a business, and it's a sound business decision to go this B-H-E route, test the market, no major expenditures, and if your idea makes money. THEN invest in all the bells and whistles.

Too many times I see people dropping $2, 5, 10,000.00 on ideas and concepts where you do not know if it is good or not. If this business is cut out for you or not. How about starting small with you, your camera, and your girl. Working it with little capital expense, and test the market first.

If you are serious about this and you're broke you will need to be able to do the following:

1. Take the photos and videos (means decent equipment, knowing what white balance is, having a space to shoot, having props/outfits)

2. Editing the photos and videos (color correction, fixing blemishes, cut/crop/rotate, - edit videos splice/remix, encode to new formats for web flv, wmv, avi, etc.)

3. Code the website and the galleries (html, php, ajax, java, etc.) create the .psd's for the design and be able to "slice/dice" them

4. Create the member's area, introduce security like 'strong box' to keep your accounts safe, and get billing like CCBill

5. Market your site, you can do all of the above and if no one knows it exists...you're screwed. So you have to be able to drive traffic to your site (SEO, adverts, press release, networking, etc.)

...this is just some of the stuff off the top of my head. Keep in mind there are people on this board who make a living as a) photographers b) coders c) designers d) marketers so these are not skills that are easy to acquire and perfect. If you run your own site you truly must become a 'webmaster' and all that it entails.

Nah. He is better off starting out with a clip store, watermarking videos, and building up content over 3-6 months then going that route. Then launch a pay site when he has enough content.
