Somebody used my credit card to by a guitar amp, I'm pissed!!!

Looked at my account and had a $282.10 charge to audiomedi.com so I called them, they used my real name and not my name on the card, also put my phone number down and my billing address. The fact that they used my real name and phone number means it was somebody that shipped something to me. I only do business with a handful of people so it was one of them and only maybe 4 of them are from California where the items were going to be shipped. I can't accuse anyone but damn it was one of those 4 people, no way could be anyone else.

Well I called the company and they were really glad that I called them and didn't do a charge back because they hadn't shipped out the item yet so I got an instant refund and they didn't lose anything. If I didn't catch this as soon as I did they would have been out that amp and $30-$60 in charge back fees.

lol I use my birth name and company name on my credit card, they used the name my friends call me or that I put down when i have something shipped to me. So it really narrows it down to just a handful of people. Had to have been an online purchase and not a point of sale or some data breech at my bank or something. Also a few suspects had my old number on file when I logged into my accounts with them so it narrows it down to like 2-3 companies.

Keep an eye out for a suck-ass amateur guitar player with shitty taste in tone. A pro would never steal an amp worth less than $500.

damn, thats fucked up. good thing you caught it in time. this happened to me a while ago and i check my debit card and checking account almost everyday.

in my case, it wasnt a business that leaked the information, but rather they were storing credit card and order information non securely on their server and someone easily got in and took all the info

I am sure that the CC company can do a search to find out and charge them - not too mention that you may want to check into any other purchases made in recent history that you don't recall

Send your info to the police and FBI. They'll interview those people and will find the theif.

Yes it could have even been like a webmaster that was working from California for a client in New York that had access to customer data, who knows. Funny thing is I have one guy I work with that always talks to about his band but he is a cool guy, haha I hope its not him.

For $282 I don't think the FBI would really care, I'm thinking of filing a police report though.

if they were going to ship it they must had an shipping address, ask them for the shipping address and you may narrow it to 1 suspect
