Please Help! My computer is sick. Svchost.exe is going crazy!!

I know there are lots of smart techs floating around here, I hope you can help me!

Every 20 mins or so, my computer's resources go nuts and it slows everything down, and even stops my computer... I have to reboot and start all over again.

In the task manager it's always one of these that is sucking up 100% resources:

svchost.exe or ccSvcHst.exe (usually the first one)

I scanned for the sCvhost.exe virus, and I couldn't find any files relating to it.

When the scvhost.exe goes crazy, I "end process" and that usually just fucks up the system and I have to reboot again.

I'm going nuts trying to figure this out.

    Please help!
    Thanks!!

There are multiple viruses which identify themselves as svchost.exe. Usually they will go undetected from your installed antivirus program because they tamper with your virus definition file. One way to easily identify if you have it, is if you have multiple svchost.exe running, you should have one on a normal Win XP machine.

Both Symantec and F-Secure let you do an online scan, do that.
Also download hijackthis and run it.
Other good software is adaware and spybot.

        Thank you!

I do have about 4 or 5 svchost.exe's running, but I read where that is normal?

I have Norton, and ran a scan, but no help there.

I will try F-Secure and hihackthis.

There are so many blogs on this it's mind blowing. I hope one of those works.... Thanks again!

Also, get the SuperAntiSpyware program, it can do a fantastic job at finding nasty files and stuff from all over the place.

          And read here:

          http://ask-leo.com/svchost_and_svcho..._and_more.html

I have another article also, but apparently not on this computer.

you've got spyware and mostly likely it's trying to send shit out.

Spy Bot Search and Destroy I used to use on Windows.

But honestly, back up your important data, reformat and start over is your safest bet.

And oh yeah, don't visit those nasty file sharing sites that sneak that shit in

Yes, you can have more than one legit svchost running, but usually they are faily small. Watch specifically for any extremely large instances of the process. Those are clearly suspicious.

But Hijackthis and SuperAntiSpyware are two of your best friends, SuperAntiSpyware is well worth paying for after the 30 day trial is over and last I remember HiJackThis was free. Just be careful since it's a Windows system file/process you are messing with. Don't delete anything you're not certain of can be deleted.

i just ran drweb and it took off all kinds of viruses that mcafee misses. It's good and I would recommend it for sure

This virus/trojan is called Vundo/Virtumonde and is known to be quite hard to get rid of.

Turn off Windows system restore, otherwise you can clean it up, and then a restore can bring it back again:

This article here is not perfect but covers most parts:

AlphaSky, I have 5 svchost.exe processes running right now (win xp) and it is normal. My machine is clean.

If you are worried, I have found that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and SUPERAntiSpyware will clean your machine up. Both have free versions that work great.

you need to get a good antivirus program to scan and remove viruses

it will also protect your PC all the time

I did 4 different virus scans and went thru every post....Really.... I've been on this for over 2 days.... this thread alone for all night....

I'm not sure how it got fixed, but when I followed the steps in this outline:

                                  http://www.technibble.com/how-to-fix...u-memory-leak/

So far, my computer has not freaked out!!! I don't want to jinx it, but it's been about 30 mins, and my computer is running fine online.

Just want to thank each and every one of you here who took the time to write in and give your advice. I think Adraco might have nailed it, or it might've been a combo.... I did so many different things, I should've written them down.... but that last one from that link was the last thing I did, and it worked!!!!

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!

I got here late but would have suggested HijackThis and Spybot Search and Destroy. I recall having a nasty bit of spyware once with those two being integral pieces in the puzzle to get rid of it.

Btw Norton antivirus sucks big time, I would recommend you Avast - the best one I've used so far and it's free for home use.
