Smart Thumbs + Todays Galleries

I've read that Smart Thumbs does not allow you to do a "Todays galleries and Yesterdays Galleries" type thing but that it is possible to fake it.

Has anyone been able to successfully fake doing something like this? My plan was to have a thumbs gallery up top with the default Smart Thumbs rotation, but also text links below that in the style that The Hun uses with date stamps.

I'm thinking if I use PHP to create a date stamp for the current day, I can then fake it by doing another section with current date stamp -1 (for Yesterdays date) and -2 for (two days ago date stamp) Then I am thinking if I use 3 diff groups, 1 for each date stamp, I can have it populate the fake date stamps with the links from those groups.

However I am not sure if that would work and if it does I don't want it to rotate those galleries so that it keeps it in the same order for each day.

Any Input or Ideas?
