Interlinkin websites theory

Hello guys,

To keep it simple, have you ever observed a google penalty when you interlinked several of your websites? If so, please share the number and your insides.

Word on the net is that:
1. Interlinking more than a dozen websites will make goolge consider them as 1 and rank 1 of your sites very high and the rest on page 1000 -like a yoyo. You do some more seo on another site, that one gets up and the prior money site gets down.

2. Goolge won't care but being evil as he is will devalue the links Well that is bad but we can live with it.

3. There is no penalty but it's hard not to link to a bad neighbour in adult - busted! big G will penalize you whole network and not just your site.

I have made a seo checklist for my network just to stay on the safe side.
Many of my sites dropped from great positions in serps but I can't pinpoint towards the reason because there were other areas where I may have done wrong

My safeplan was:
- stopped interlinking my sites - had 28 sites interlinked;
- keyword density - under 2% (panda)
- no rss, dupe content (panda)
- no anchor text navigation (words on the net a penalty exists - would be great for a future disc)
- moved some of my links from the footer, spread'ed them all over the page
- tried to diversify my backlinks more - about 60% keyword related the rest url, click here, random
....
and so on;)
So you see, google could slap me for so many reasons that I can't pin point to the interlinking.

I can hardly wait to hear your oppinions;)

IMHO:

There's so much bullshit out there that these "seo experts" come up with as selling points that it almost makes me want to gag. Why wouldn't you want to interlink your network and share your traffic with yourself? If you're going to interlink, just make sure each site has original content, but also make sure the sites are relevant to each other. Never been penalized for following this rule of thumb.

Yes, before I started doing more SEO I was a normal dude building sites, linking them and earning money. Found myself with so many seo info that I would be better off without.
I mean if you put all this seo crap together you need fucking wikipedia to rank
I think the porblem comes when you interlink sites targeting the same exact micro niche with same keywords.
Take care;)

True, SEO is 99% smoke and mirrors. When it works it's fantastic. Otherwise... yeah. Meh.

I've been working with a client who had one of his sites in a network of 17 properties that got the google smackdown. He'd interlinked it so much that 97% of his links came from his own network. One site in the network got great rankings, one got banned, the rest have all fallen way down. With that experience under my hat I'd say sexywebteacher is pretty close to the money.

"Diversify your links" is a bit of jargon that simply means make sure you spread yourself around and don't put all your eggs in one basket. Get links from everywhere, anywhere, just don't take them all from one place. Networks that only link within the network? Not so hot.

Here is what I think a good way of approaching the SEO issues in general is:

1. I cannot pin point that interlinking my sites got me penalized because there are other things that could led my sites to a penalty.

2. The key, I believe, is to make the sites SEO "safe", wait for a few weeks, months and start changing things slightly, always knowing what to change.
SEO safe means eliminating factors that can damage a site.
When you have too many factors that can damage the SEO how can you tell which one did it?

Take care ;)

You shouldn't be massive all out interlinking... thats number 1... get some new blood in, link out, get some links in, don't have all your sites linking to all the others...

Second, are all your sites on different C class ips? Just saying, if they aren't thats very silly to be interlinking so much unless you legit only want traffic to flow around without any actual SEO going on...

If you make a living off your sites, you'd have to be an idiot to risk your mortgage by interlinking anything more than A-B-C without having each site on separate c blocks, truly private Whois, unique content, and a diverse backlink profile. And when I say diverse backlink profile, I mean from the types of incoming links AND between your sites. For example, if you have 1200 incoming links from various types of sites (ie. Bookmarks, video sites, pictures, articles, etc) and you repeat 1000 of those links on each site, you might be in trouble. Also need diverse anchor text and targeting pages across your network.

I'm leaving out a few details for this to be a truly all inclusive guide, but this covers 75% of it.

This comes from someone who rapes google in mainstream biz for mid volume financial terms and looks at the SERP's as real estate.

Failed trolls is more like it.

No it wont hurt to interlink them although you should find a " Focal point ( site ) " and link them ALL to the one at some point.

It also never hurts to spread them across several servers and sometimes several different companies. Not mandatory thing but it can help.
