You are fine. Often a new site goes high up at first, then disappears, the settles in. It is the new version of the google dance.

You are listed in google. http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=of...w=1366&bih=599

That shows me around 98 pages indexed.

If you watch google every day you can drive yourself insane trying to figure out what it is doing.

just imho of course.

Hey! I'm back with my stupid questions about WP blogging. Something that popped up in my mind lately is the fact that I want to edit the content I already have by modifying the keywords and removing some of the outgoing links. What do you think Google will make of this?

Oh I see your site is back, most time drinking tee and waiting helps, otherwise if you find your page for your own keyword on page 5 or 6 then your site is penalized and then you can start to worry. Then you can start about thinking why your site is penalized, in google webmaster tools you won't find anything about the penalty, if you know why you received the penalty you can fix it and ask google to reindex your site well. Why I know that because I received already many penalties.

You need a real domain and real hosting if you want a decent listing with google.

^^^Thanks for posting this. I've read that this is the case using a few different resources, yet I can't seem to find out if there's an expected timeline for this kinda thing

My site is about 7 weeks old and has been ranking higher and higher for my key search words pretty much from the beginning, although I did notice a few weeks in, the name of my site disappeared from google for several days. All of a sudden my whois page was the first listing in google for about a week, with no other sign of my site until page 3 and 4. Then it went back to 'normal'. Since then I'm really pleased with the new traffic I'm getting, my alexa rank is rising, and I'm appearing well in all my target search terms.

Should I expect a drop as I settle in, or was that anomaly with the name of my site likely it? I know there's no guarantees but I guess what I'm asking is, based on your experience, does the 'google drop' typically occur that early in?

I have alot of my own paying traffic from before I started the site so I'm not dependent on google, but I do want to continue to expand my customer base, and that's going well so far.

I'm a bit competitive so I tend to do searches of my keywords a bit too often (every day or 2, not good, I know). Assuming I'm doing everything in a legit manner (not keyword stuffing, linking, adding quality content, following SEO tips) should I prepare myself for another drop down, or is it common for the drop to occur so early in?

apologies for the threadjack but I couldn't resist asking since the topic was raised here.

OP, I'm glad you got your rank back

Google is crafty and your actions could affect your personal serps!

searching and clicking on your own serp links can push your result up the listings but only on your PC if you truly want to gauge your serp results use a difrent computer located away from your work place to check results.

^^^yeah, I've heard that, and you're right, being ranked high on MY computer doesn't do me much good where customers are concerned

when I check results I always clear my cashe beforehand and I never actually click on my own links. I do check it at the office sometimes at my vanilla job (different computer/IP, and I never actually visit/work on my site from there) so I'm pretty sure what I'm seeing is accurate

I think I just need to chill out a bit about it, though, and thanks for taking the time to write a note of caution

I'm still curious about the 'google drop' phenomenon, though. I hope I can resist the urge to check my SERPs so frequently once I'm past the whole 'drop and then settle in' phase...I'm just not sure if that's already happened or not

google analytics or a similar tool is just as good rather than actually making searches.

many dodgy seo's use the "1st on my computer trick" to fool gullible clients!

personally after panda i had a micro niche site come from nowhere to 1st page, stayed there for 2 months then dropped out of sight, its only just making a comeback, imo click thru and bounce rate has a lot to do with it

^^^cool, I really appreciate the response!

I'm almost at the 2 month mark so I'll keep an eye on things, I guess if the google drop hasn't already happened it will happen fairly soon.

thanks for the link as well, I'm part of another forum but that one focuses more on 'big box' camming, so gfy is a bit of a goldmine when it comes to the webmaster end of the business. I have most of the 'educational series' section here bookmarked

I'd bookmarked the thread you linked but I hadn't really focused on the bounce rate aspect. Right now my bounce rate is 40%, but I don't know if my tendency to link new customers (some of whom find me in places other than on my website) right to my booking page is factoring into that (as in, even when they book a show they'll still contribute to 'bounce' just because they don't visit any other page during that visit). I've been really trying to target traffic who would want what I'm offering, as having a ton of people NOT interested in what I offer messaging me only serves to waste my time and theirs. I'm going to try linking new customers who find me elsewhere to the main page of my website to see if that lowers my bounce rate before I make any other changes, not so much for google, but to see if my stratgey (of targeting people who actually want what I offer) is working the way I think it is. I'll test that out for a bit, and if the bounce rate is still high I'll start tweaking my marketing strategy

Interacting with customers and potential customers takes alot of time, so I'd rather have 10 out of 15 people visit my site per day and book shows than have 15 out of 100 people do so. In my situation the quality of traffic (which I'm assuming a lower bounce rate would reflect) is way more important than the overall number of visitors, so I'm definitely going to keep an eye on that.

thanks again for taking the time to write! your comments have been incredibly helpful, and you answered a question I hadn't even thought to ask

peace and $$$$
