Site darkens after editing CSS?

Ok. I'm running into an interesting problem. I keep switching between my test theme and my main one to verify. Whenever I add repeat-x to my header, menu bar, and footer, they become noticeably darker. I was able to confirm this in photoshop. My footers hex is #201F20. When I add repeat-x it appears to be #1A191A. It does the same thing whether I have the footer set as a background color, or a background image using the same color. I don't even have to add repeat-x to all of them, each one darkens no matter what one it is applied to. And now that I look at it, it seems like every single thing on the page changes color.

I noticed all this when it appeared that my footer wasn't showing up. Turns out it was just so dark that I couldn't distinguish it from the rest of the background.

Any ideas why it's doing this?

Edit: Images can be found at my url by adding /dark.jpg and /light.jpg.

What elements are you trying to add the repeat to?

You say in there you are adding it to the footer? You are trying to repeat the footer? Why would you do that. I am used to seeing repeat used in backgrounds predominantly where you use a very small image or element and repeat it to create the illusion of a full background.

If you are actually trying to add repeat to your footer then my guess is that you are overlaying your footer area multiple times giving the appearance of getting darker.

Let me see what code you are using and I can verify that theory or not.

Just the header, footer, and menu. I checked and even the border around the images changes, even though I haven't done anything to them yet.

-Just checked in IE and it seems it displays properly with both themes.

So far I've only checked it in firefox.
But what part are you trying to repeat.

I looked at the css on your live site. In the header, you have the repeat associated with the background image, this is correct.

In the footer, there is no image to repeat so I do not see any usage for repeat there.

What are you attempting to get to?

Sorry I keep switching back and forth. I just switched back to the one I'm testing this all on. On the other one the footer simply has a background color set. On this one it's a png of the background color. It'll be replaced later with a patterned footer image. I want the footer to repeat that way it spans the entire width of the page, the same way the menu and header background do. I don't really have a problem with that, just that when I make these adjustments the whole site appears to get darker slightly. Now it appears it's only happening in firefox though, so I wonder what the deal is.

I looked at it in chrome and it appears to be working properly.

Not sure what issue FF is giving but I stopped checking stuff in FF a while back because things were screwing up.

Have fun. I have to get back to work ;p
