moving website without 301 redirects (concerned only with 'duplicate content')

hey y'all

I have a question about moving a website to a new domain and the ramifications re: duplicate content. I've done a ton of reading about this but everything I read talks about 301 redirects, which I can't do because I sold the domain.

I know in moving the site without 301 redirects I lost links and will experience a drop in rankings temporarily and I'm cool with that. My only concern is about the 'duplicate content' issue with my new website. I moved all the content to a new domain but I haven't set it live yet for that reason. The old domain is currently deindexed (when I type site: old-domain.com it's not listed in google) and there doesn't appear to be a cache of the content on the old site, based on the 'cache checking' tools I've found online. I also did a change of address in GWT

Is it safe to put my content live on my new site without receiving a duplicate content penalty?

If I understand your situation correctly, your old domain doesn't have any content anymore and google is not indexing its old location. You could therefor move ahead with your new site without worrying about duplicate content.

BTW: Thanks for the pix. We are currently moving to a dedicated so it must have been painfully slow to upload them.

the scenario is exactly what you've described. I think I was being a bit neurotic so hearing some reassurance does put my mind at ease. Every damn thing I read was '301 this/301 that'
