How much do I pay girls for their, um, performances? I have a few girls that would love to do it, but have no idea how much to pay them. Or to recruit others. God, I'm pathetic.

well, first of all, there are no standard pay rates... Often, we pay the model after qualifications - so if she's a total newbie, and only wants to masturbate without toys, the rate is lower... but if you pay 50$ an hour, you are not all wrong...

Well here are average LA rates. Outside LA rates will be a bit lower and rates depend on model appearance, etc

Solo Nude - $100 hr
Solo Masterbation - $200 for like 30 min vid with pics
Bjs - $150 - $250
Girl Girl - $200 and up
B/G - $500 - $700 per vid. Some girls will be less

Of course you can get them less, go for it.

Yes outside of LA you can get hardcore for $250. You can even get some girls in LA for $250. Its a little tougher, but they are there

I'm a model in Florida, and these are the rates that I accept:

non-nude: $50/hr
solo nude, no toys: $50/hr, minimum two hour shoot
nude with toys: $75/hr, minimum two hour shoot
extreme content (spanking, watersports, etc.): $100/hr
girl/girl: $200/shoot
plot-driven videos with acting involved: $400/shoot (I've had these shoots run as long as 10 hours, so that's a bargain)

I don't shoot any boy/girl, so I don't know much about rates for that. My rates tend to be on the high side, as I feel that I give producers a lot for their money. They'll get a lot more usable content from me than from a raw newbie. Keep experience in mind when hiring models... paying a bit more for a professional is worth it. Also, offering even a small bounty for new models is a way to keep talent rolling in.

I also create content for sites with the help of another model/photographer. Rates for that tend to be about $1.50 an image, minimum 200 images.

Once you get your girls, make sure you have your ass covered from a legal/copyright perspective. You should have your models sign a model release form (MRF). If you had an attorney consult on your site's Ts & Cs, he/she should be able to help you with the MRF. If not, there are some adult internet lawyers listed on some of the tutorial sites, etc.

Good luck. I'd love to see some of your work once it's done. What cameras, etc are you using?

Yes, excellent plan. Signing releases at the end of the shoot is good etiquette, in my opinion. Just from the model's end, I don't like signing a release for material I haven't shot yet.

You also need photocopies of at least one ID, for age verification; two is better, can't be too safe (I use my driver's license and either my student ID or voter registration card).

Great tips, all - I had been counselled on the release end of it - I used to model (different kind than what I'm contemplating) so I know how important it can be to get that straight, form both points of view.

As far as what types of cameras Doctor, have a few cameras (one digital, one camcorder) - what would you suggest? Any favorites?

For DV cameras, I favor Sony - specifically the PD-150. It's the same camera as the VX 2000 only, it shoots DV-Cam and has XLR for extra mics or a mic mixer. It also lets you set time code and user bit info for logging and editing later. It's the smallest, lightest "Pro" camera available.

Panasonic has a new MiniDV camera that shoots progressive scan and 24fps. I have not had a chance to shoot with that one yet but, it looks very promising. Runs about the same price as the PD150.

The Canon XL1 is a favorite. It's main advantage is you can change lenses on it. Most people I know who shoot with it never do this though. I find it awkward for hand-held work though and the controls on it kind of hard to work with.

Regardless, do yourself a favor and make shure you use a three-chip camera. The difference in image quality is very apparent.
