Members area being scapped

Hi, I was wondering if there is away to stop a Gallery scrapping software from scrapping my members area? Had a member join the other day and within 4 hours download about 7 gigs of content and the cancelled. Someone mentioned it was most likely scrapped.
Thanks

So without knowing your exact setup this is pretty hard to respond to.

If you are serving your content via nginx you could limit the speed that members download at, that could put off some people from bothering. Also check your logs, was any common tool used to download those videos? find a way to block them. Jdownloader, wget or some browser based plugins.

There's probably some other solutions too, but if people REALLY want to pirate something, they will.

7gb isn't much content, so even a restrictive rate-limit can only stretch it out for a few days.

- At a 200 kb/s limit, a 7gb download takes 9.7 hours
- At 100 kb/s, it takes 19.5 hours.
- At 50 kb/s, it takes 38.9 hours
- At 25 kb/s, it takes 77.8 hours

But all of these are much slower than the 480 kb/s he was able to download at.

There are always going to be people like this, and there aren't many ways to stop them without killing the experience for your higher value customers.

I wouldn't go below 100-200 kb/s.

And if users are expected to stream the content from your site, then you can't go lower than the bitrate it takes to stream the video! Else you'll force users to buffer content while they're trying to enjoy it which just kills boners and experiences alike.

There are more clever solutions, but they depend on how your site works and some details about your stack.

Thats true. I hope it was for him personally. Just raised my eyebrows for minute. But I will keep my eye open, as 90% was shot by me an is exclusive. Be easy to catch.

Is your concern the server being hit too hard or are you trying to keep him around longer? I wouldn't recommend the latter. He paid so restricting him is rather dishonest. If it is a server issue you can throttle the connection, upgrade bandwidth, etc. Also, you might try some kind of evergreen system so that it releases new content every day from the date he signs up.

You could limit the speed that members download at.
