Suddenly linked by hundreds of sketchy domains

Hey GFY,

Over the last 24 hours the referring domains on our main affiliate site went from 35 to almost 700. The majority of these links are nofollows, but 37 of them are dofollow. The sites have nothing in common with each other or my affiliate niche, so I'm concerned our url is being placed by hackers on compromised sites. What action, if any, should I take here? Should I disavow all these shady new urls? How the heck does this even happen?

Thanks!

I'd have to see the links to say why you're getting them, but, definitely don't worry about them. If bad links could hurt you, negative SEO would be pervasive. Google's too smart to allow that.

After tons of googling in vain I finally searched that and found what I was looking for. I think it's likely a competitor trying to mess with us. We're pretty white hat with the SEO techniques.

But it seems like as long as I keep on top of these shady links by disavowing them with google I should be OK.

Spoke with an adult webmaster colleague and was told this is very common with adult review sites - some competitors use blackhat link spam to bomb your sites with bad links. Can't we all just hold hands and sell porn together you guys?

Theoretically, modern google updates are capable of recognizing the intention of that crap but I am still feeling uncomfortable. I have tons of that shit too.

Yeah, I decided to disavow the links right away just to be safe. I also don't want them to keep showing up, making it impossible to manage my link profile.

There is a new SEO service pretending that can get you lots of traffic by sending pings , they send blindly thousands of pings to unknown sites , by doing that they get webmasters attention and they come to their site and join the service.

get closer look at those links if you find them with 100% bounce rate and average session duration is ZERO , then those just pings

You know, its funny. I got 2 spam e-mails today, exact duplicates of each other. And it made me think of this thread. Check it out:

<begin paste>

From: picrights.com <[email protected]>
Subject: powerful backlinks for your site

Message Body:
Hello guys, I would like to make offer for you. Please buy my services from https://www.fiverr.com/seosupremacy or I will create negative porn backlinks to your website and get it removed from Google index. Please choose. I recommend that you buy my gigs to avoid losing business. If you order my gig, I will take your site to top and if no, I will spam it with porn links and get you removed from Google. I hope you understand the serious matter.

--
This e-mail was sent from a contact form on MFC Teens (https://www.mfcteens.com)

<end paste>

My reaction? Something like this:

Personally, I wouldn't click that link. Much less, purchase any "gigs" from said link. But on the other hand, who knows, maybe this is some SEO dude trying to make a competing SEO dude look bad.

We'll never know. But just thought I'd give y'all a heads up about these shenanigans going on.

Thanks for letting us know! And thanks for reminding me of my favorite gif.

UPDATE: Still getting 200-300 garbage linking domains per day

I have same problem as well.
Out of the blue, i see super shitty links coming from subdomains, with really ugly spammy looking url.
I disavow them just to be on the safe side.
Many from those are .ru , .xyz , and .info ltds

I have nearly 7000 backlinks coming from almost 70 shitty domains (all disavowed of course)

Might be a competitor trying to get you de-indexed. I would disavow them.. time consuming though.
