Adult Content Warning - Anyone?
Hello everyone, I have a website ( www.celebspew.com ) that I am working on and wanted to know if there were any default 'Adult Content' warning text or if this is something I am going to have to have a lawyer right up.
My site is still under-construction, but I am looking to cover all the legal / privacy stuff first. Thank you in advanced! -Mike C. |

Thanks sysk
Btw, do I HAVE to have this page, or is it a optional feature? |

I know some ISP's and countries may require an warning page so you may want to check with your local state attorney as well as with your national government and of course the ISP. As for a privacy policy, I have only run across an issue with mainstream websites where we wanted to link with larger fortune 500 companies. I would think though that if you run a mix site where you have mainstream content as well as adult content, then you probably will want the warning page so that the kids who are on your site understand what is going on. |

I'd side with caution. Have a enter/warning page doesnt have to be a big huge drawn up document but you want people to know what it is..you could also label your site with the RTA tag in your "head" meta tags.

In the US, the law requiring warning pages - COPA, was ruled unconstitutional and therefore warning pages arent necessary. Its smart to have one but not required. Also, keep in mind that a warning page has no legal significance unless its a click thru contract.
Better than a warning page, use a click thru terms of service, it can save you a lot of hassles and effort. However you will need a lawyer to draft it properly. |

I use warning pages on all my sites,, and all i have seen is it cripples your site with the search engines.
I will always use them in the hopes it will prevent underage viewers. If you use a warning page i would recomend you spend more on seo for it than your main page. My $0.02 |

There's no need. I just made my warning pages load thru javascript (script checks to see if cookie exists, if not, goes to warning page). Since search engines dont process the scripts... |

You can always add them just to play it safe, but it is true a lot of people have been leaving them out these days. Or even better, as mentioned, use terms and agreements that way the liability will lie in the hands of your readers not yours.

You could always just make a cool splash page with a small disclaimer.
This way you can maybe beat the search engine problem, but still give the option of leaving. |
