Best place to buy new domain name?

I've always used Network Solutions in the past, but it's been several years, and from what I've been reading on the message boards it's better to buy through someone like Go Daddy for a little more privacy. Yet I've also read to stay away from Go Daddy. I also wonder how important getting the right domain name and locking up all the variations is seeing as how most people just click on links anyway, and never really type the URL into the browser. Could someone please point me in the right direction here?--Thanks!

Namecheap haven't got coupons for renewals so it's more expensive.
Namecheap have sometimes technical issues, but I like their domain management.

I would go for moniker - secure, cheap, have marketplace
You might use godaddy, depends what TLD type is cheaper with coupons.

My domain registrar comparison:

http://www.webmasterinter.net/category/domain-registrar-comparison

Enjoy.

I like Dreamhost. They bill you monthly and you can set your domains to automatically renew. I like their control panel too. For hosting, I give them a C+ but for domain name stuff, I give them an A.

I would never use registrar within hosting company. They can fuck you over. I like my domains in my hands, it's much safer.

Yes, registrar with one company and have hosting at other companies. Diversify.

Coupon codes are discounts at registrar, some are based on type of transactions (buy, renew, transfer), some are tight to TLD, some are tight to amount of purchase, some have short life (namecheap got monthly coupons).

Read more + get coupon codes at:

Yes they do. If you have 50+ domains then you can request access to the coupon "GOLDDEAL" which gives you $8.41 renewals.

Nobody should ever use godaddy...ever. Ditto with Moniker.

Namecheap system is really good, everything is logical, interface is good, mass editing is perfect, their WHOIS sux, You need to check external whois tools

But PRICE matters (especially when You got tons of domains) so there are better options

There are cheap and reliable registrars like moniker, godaddy, namecheap or name.com
I usually pick what's cheapest for that TLD with discount coupon.

Godaddy is quite OK but for larger projects I'd prefer safer Moniker with comparable prices.

Namecheap totally sux my crap.

Must copy/paste my reply in other thread:

"In past, I've used Namecheap, bed renewal coupon policy but still fine.
At one day, their system started to crash alot. It did logout you during so many operations, or it totally colapsed that it took 5-10 logins and 5-15 minute to register domain. It took them more then month to solve it.
Then I've got adult domain forwarded to adult traffic broker and they've blocked my traffic out of nothing so I must set my NS and redirect traffic by myself. If I won't notice it, I will lose 3000 UIPs/month sold through traffic broker."
Described here:
http://www.webmasterinter.net/2009/0...lt-webmasters/

If you try to push domain with whoisguard to another account at Namecheap and you have special characters in givenname, surname or adress whoisguard never transfer to another account. So you got domain at other account and whois still in yours.

What a crap. There's no way I'm gonna use them again as they have nothing to offer.

Freedmann: They're good enough. But you pay about 2-3$ more then at Moniker/Godaddy/Name/.................. but you don't get any EXTRA for those 2-3$/year -> with hundreds or thousands of domains, you can feel difference.

Moniker is much better. Godaddy is cheaper but if you're scared from Godaddy horror stories, go for Moniker ;)

Unluckily you've missed Moniker discount "end years special" for domain transfers.

Namecheap.com is good and it has fast DNS transfers which take only an hour or so.

Registerfly is worse with waiting periods for DNS transfers of 24 hours or more.
