Are there fast ways to transfer a site to a new host?
I used Filezilla, but it was slow, even for simple html pages. After that, I found a lightning fast utility called GoFTP. My host offered something called Web Disk, which would allow a person to drag and drop files from computer to remote as if the files were done via explorer.
Does anyone know any fast ways to upload a site to a new host? I have broadband, not a cable modem, and definitely not a T1 connection. I know there are utilities out there that perform site ripping. But I don't know if there is anything that would do the inverse, so to speak. |

You kind of confuse me with the way you explain things....
If your site is on a dedicated server "Or you have shell access" you could do a server to server transfer. That would for sure be much faster than downloading and uploading again. Also, it's probably not FileZilla that's slow, it will be your connection. FileZilla just does what it is told. If the bandwidth is there it will use it. Good luck. |

Absolutely. Not only will that be much faster, but it will correctly transfer the files, including the permissions (chmod) and ownership (chown) rather than just the contents of the files. Downloading to a Windows desktop and uploading will lose al of the important metadata. See the bottom half of this page: https://www.bettercgi.com/cgi-bin/wi...o_A_New_Server

Thank you for your replies.
Yes, I heard about some hosts who will do server to server transfers. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work for me because my former host wouldn't allow me to access my site anymore. My pc crashed, and it had my login info on it. And because my former host and I had a disagreement, it wouldn't provide me with that info when I requested it. Lucky for me, I had true fans who kept signing up even though I hadn't updated my site in months. ![]() Having said that, it seems I will have to stick with the FTP process. So HomerSimpson hit the nail on the head, and my former host put the nail in my site's coffin. |

If you have cpanel it is very simple.
To find out just add a /cpanel after domain and if it pulls a username and password then you are fine. Next find a new hosting that uses cpanel like www.adult-website-hosting.com and tell them to do the transfer. |
