the ZR1 is the only American car I would ever consider buying. still, I am just a sucker for German sports cars. sidenote: Clarkson owns a Ford GT.

I love my corvette and it's much faster than my old 308. Not rich enough to have both at the same time but I have had both at one time or another and corvette wins.

I dove the vette for 7 years with 350 HP, now I have the V with 556 HPand love it... gonna look at vettes when this lease if up winter 2013, right when the C7 comes out :thumbsup

I drive through Paso Robles a few times a year.. and I love vette's as well, try the new V out tho

Im pretty sure he doesnt anymore, i'm sure they said something about him selling it at a loss.
He was always moaning that it broke down every trip he took in it and it spent more time at Ford's getting fixed than in his garage.

Top Gear is a great show, but they will never say anything positive about an American car.

With that said, not a huge fan of Vettes. They just scream redneck, and they look so outdated after every re-design. To many chicks drive them to, so it borders on being a chick car. I came close to buying one, but I'm not a balding 40 year old white guy with a beer gut, so it didn't fit me. Went with the Benz instead :)

Just because the AMG cars make a ton of power doesn't mean you can compare them to Vettes, or Vettes to AMG cars. Totally different leagues.

AMG cars are quick, fast luxury cars.

Vettes are quick, fast sports cars. They aren't really meant to be super nice on the inside, they're meant to go fast straight, turn fast, and look good on the outside.

A ZR1 has a similar price point to an an E63AMG and is more expensive than a C series AMG (I considered a ZR1 purchase). For that price, I would like something other than plastic parts inside. My E63 has 500 HP and can do 0-60 in 4.0. It looks good and is classy (mines kinda mean with the carbon fiber and rims :) ).

With that said, the ZR1 is a beast. Just not my cup of tea.

Saw his GT40 at the RPM show a couple of years back and he actually sold it pretty quickly as it constantly broke down.

vette's about the drive on the road... not about the look sitting in traffic. maybe you are not a car guy? no big deal, some guys are just status guys and don't care about the ride... like having a BMW. they look great in front of a bar or doing some hair brained shit on the freeway... but you'll never see one out in the mountains doing serious shit on the road. you'll never see a Mercedes either.

and I've had the vette down dirt roads most guys wouldn't even take their SUV's down...a vette is a really fast, quick car for a very cheap price that you can drive just about anywhere on a daily basis.

LOL, this absolutely makes no sense is about as wrong as it can get. Are you saying a ZR1 Vette is actually a better daily driver and "ride" than a similarly priced Benz and BMW? You're completely wrong. The ZO6 and ZR1 are actually horrible daily drivers. I've test driven a Z06. Because of the light composite materials they use for those cars, they are very uncomfortable on regular roads and you get massive amount of rattle on regular roads. If you go over a small bump in a ZR1 you will feel like you ran over a 5 foot pot hole lol. The Z06 and ZR1 are actually track cars. Ideally, they are meant for smooth roads, and a straight line. That's why some people don't like them.

On the other hand, if you have $100K porche, benz and BMW you get performance AND comfortable ride, as they have better suspensions and are built better. It is cliche, but German engineering for cars is light years ahead of Ford and Chevy.

Don't ever tell a car guy that you think a ZR1 is a "great, comfortable daily driver." They'll look at you like strange and think you are a moron lol.

A previous poster correctly noted that these vettes are meant to go very fast, in a straight line. He is spot on (though both vettes will do well on a smooth track).

And finally, you say the Vette is not about the "look" but the "ride" lol? Dude, it is the loudest "look at me" car produced lol.

I found the corvette to have a really loose backend.. sooo damn easy to spin the tires on that car, thou I am sure with more experience with it I could get a hang of it.

actually I believe I wrote 'vette' not z06 or zr1... feel free to check if you'd like... my vette was 37K in 2004. pretty sure no 40k German car is gonna beat a vette. vette's are built the way they are to keep cost down... do you actually think Chevy can't pull a German car into a shop, take it a part and see what the fucking deal is? seriously dude.

drove a vette on a daily basis for 7 years, great driver... fwy, dirt roads, in town etc... plenty of 600 mile days as well. very comfortable to drive. great gas mileage as well and oh yeah.... lol
