Depends on which state you are in... The federal government gives you a 30% tax credit. Louisiana has one of the best and gives you an additional 50% tax credit. So here, I can get solar for 80% of the price. How long it takes to get your money back depends on how much you paying for it, and really which state you live in.

I'm betting on people loosening their wallets as the end approaches and buying a very specific product. Since the 2012 thing has became so popular these products have been selling like crazy on ebay and the prices have sky rocketed already.

I would buy stock in a televangelist. They sell buckets of hope and redemption... promises of an happy eternal afterlife... all for a low payment of $100 (cough donation) to their *church*.

If you ever want to dupe people and sell them something that isn't real, sell them promises of a happy after life. It's been proven time and time again by all the nuts you see on TV. If the end of the world is coming, those guys are going to be billionaires... when nothing happens.

I think the Dutch figured it out, they seem like a really smart group of people:

The Dutch-language de Volkskrant newspaper said it spoke to thousands of believers in the impending end of civilization, and while theories on the supposed catastrophe varied, most tied the 2012 date to the end of the Mayan calendar, Radio Netherlands reported Monday.

De Volkskrant said many of those interviewed are stocking up on emergency supplies, including life rafts and other equipment.

Some who spoke to the newspaper were optimistic about the end of civilization.
