Dont.

Of the many people I met that night, you were one of the few that DIDNT judge me on my appearance :thumbsup

3 guys jumped me and my buddy one night in an alley after the club. We were taking a piss and drunk as fuck, one of them comes up to me and smashes me with knuckle dusters on... wasn't pretty! Two of them started laying into my mate who came running to help me and the other one guy kept smashing into me. I managed to kick him in the nuts and punch him in the face, which made him more angry haha! Our other friends heard the noise and came to help but they ran off.

My buddy ended up in hospital as he didnt stand a chance, I just had a couple black eyes and a few bruises and lumps on my head. My mate was good tho, just badly swollen face.

Unfortunately I got into way too many fights growing up. Working in bars for 15 years, I couldn't avoid them.

Also in my mid 20's to mid 30's I had anger management issues. Now as Anthony said, you never know who you will meet out there with everyone training MMA and BJJ so I stay out of fights.

DWB 01-14-2011 02:39 PM

Yea. But try to avoid them at all costs cause it always ends with someone going to jail or the hospital. Easier just to mace them and walk away.

dan@noof 01-14-2011 03:09 PM

No fights since I've been an adult, but the OP's story reminded me of the time I punched my adult soccer coach (i was a freshman in high school) in the head twice when he tried to break up an argument between me and a teammate.

Quit the team, but never did get in trouble for that.

Tanker 01-14-2011 03:12 PM

Not since I was in the Marines

Had this convo with Just Dave XXX, and I came to the conclusion, that I'll run into a shitload of brand new whitebelts (BJJ is the new TKD ), and maybe 10% of them become Blues, which equates to a Black belt in any fighting style. So my thinking was, if I became a solid Purple, I'll be able to handle pretty much anything thrown my way. Dave just laughed at it. :1orglaugh

As an adult there's the risk of charges, court and jail time as well.

LeRoy 01-14-2011 03:33 PM

One time I met this chick while doing D2D sales in Sac town. about 19 years ago. I was 21

We had sex about 20 minutes after I knocked on the door. It was nice ;)

I chilled for a bit.. then this big black guy pulls up. Turns out its her hubby. He put an ass whoopin on me big time.

I didnt have the heart to fight back because I felt kinda bad. I let him rag doll me lol

fuzebox 01-14-2011 03:53 PM

Never been in a fight my entire life. It's really weird because I just started muay thai, and I apologize a dozen times during sparring...

scarlettcontent 01-14-2011 03:58 PM

Fist fights were common sight when I was at school, I fought and won many battles. After I left school I never had a fight until a few years ago when I was in London 3 guys tried rob me, one of the guys had a knife and asked me for my wallet, before he could even finish his sentence I punched him really hard on the nose and he went down like a fly being swat, "KO" he didn't know what had hit him, his crony friends ran off very very fast. I surprised myself really. not sure if I would do it again I could have been stabbed but It felt really good though hhmm a nice adrenalin rush :)

I used to love fighting as a youth (product of an angry childhood)

the older I get the greater my distaste for violence is. I've been in a few fights as an adult and as much as the other guy might have deserved what happened, they nothing I have fond memories of.

Instead I just avoid places that has higher chance of stupid people (nightclubs)

JP-pornshooter 01-14-2011 04:08 PM

someone mentioned it kinda goes black and you dont recall it after, possible rage or adrenalin, or perhaps the other guy just hit you so hard your brain bounced.. and its over in no time.

few times i have had models pimps/boyfriends/hubbys wanting to fight me and i have always backed down, these guys have nothing to loose so i happily swallow my pride.

It's also why I don't drink, the aggro gets to be too much.

Fortunately for the general public, people who can fight, wont. They/I will do what ever it takes to avoid a fight. Get enough fighting in training.

At the end of the day there is no paycheck at the end of a street fight. So why do it?

Have been in unavoidable fight situations a few times. Fortunately for them i don't get upset when i fight and when in a superior position, i ask the guy if he is done. I then help them up and we go our separate ways. As long as nobody goes to the hospital for injuries, nobody gets sued. Getting sued is a nightmare i have seen a few friends go through because of there inability to just walk the other way.

Fighting solve nothing and everything depending on your particular situation. I hate to say it, but violence is all some people understand.

Fortunately for me I happen to speak that language very well.:thumbsup

Lester Burnham 01-14-2011 10:24 PM

Yes, and I learned a BIG lesson. No, I didn't get my ass kicked....

The other guy had a knife...

I lived in a house in law school with a bunch of peeps (some students, some not). We had this clown who pissed me off over so dumb shit. We argue, he made a move, so I punched him in the face and proceeded to get quite a number of hits on him (I was a knucklehead in middle and high school, so I had the "grab with one arm and punch with the other" down pretty good lol.

He was pretty much a pussy, so I was pretty confident. Anyways, during the fight (which lasted about 20 seconds), blood start falling on my eyes. I was like "WTF??!!" because he didn't land a punch on me. The shit went down fast, because I was just wailing on his face, with a lot of adrenaline. So guys come and break it up, and we all realize that he stabbed me with a 2 inch pocket knife in the stomach and face. Apparently, when I came downstairs to deliver the ass kicking, he had the knife behind his back. After everyone was saying, "WTF did you pull a knife on him for??!!" he started to stammer and you could tell he knew he made a mistake. He started to cry.

I was very fortunate in that he didn't know how to use it. The knife didn't penetrate deep enough to do any damage, but he left a 12 inch scar from the stomach to chest (which is still there). Another fortunate thing was the cuts on the face were at my hairline, so you can't really see them.

Went to the hospital, the cops came, and they asked me if I wanted to file a police report and ask them to pursue the matter further. I declined. He was a student, we got hot headed, and I didn't want him to go to jail. He was scared shitless because he knew he was gonna go to jail. I was also nervous because I was trying to get through law school, and the last thing I needed was to be in the local student paper and having to testify at a trial.

I learned a really big lesson. A fight is NEVER worth it unless my life or the life of a friend/family is in danger. You never know if the other person is armed. I'm actually pretty embarrassed about it. I was a grown ass man, and like some drunk frat boy I tried to "get it on." Now when I go out, I'm always the "walk away guy", and sometimes my friends give me a hard time about being Mr. Peace Pipe (I got some knucklehead friends that always seem to find trouble at the bar). But I don't care. I've learned my lesson.

harvey 01-14-2011 10:28 PM

yes, quite a bunch, maybe once a year or every couple years, but only when there's no way to avoid it, although the last time I started it: my sister in law was crossing the street with my nephew in his stroller and some sucker turned the corner and throw the car in front of her, so I kicked the car on the back door and the guy stopped and started throwing punches. It lasted just a couple punch exchanges because there was a policeman there, so he separated us and the guy told the policeman what I did to his car, I told him he tried to kill my sister in law and nephew and on top of that that he saw everything and did nothing, so the policeman went all defensive and told us to go away, nothing to see here and yadda yadda.

This is one of the reasons I go to the gym every day and do some boxing 2-3 days a week, otherwise I'm always like "overcharged" and react like that to everything. Not very adult on my part, gotta admit :Oh crap

purple belt? what martial art is that? I am (well, was) Tae Kwon Do blue belt and Judo green belt but never saw a purple belt

edit: ah, did a search and it seems in US they're pretty common. In Judo they translate to blue or green and in tae kwon do it translates to blue

After about 15-20 seconds the fight stops and I walk my friend away from the crowd, so I ask him 'What the fuck happened?', and all he said was 'he just blind sided me, I guess that was his girlfriend?'. We continue to walk towards my car and unbeknownst to me, the guy who started the fight wasn't finished. He runs up with 4-5 friends and says to my friend 'you think that was it?', so I try to defuse the situation (knowing my two friends aren't the fighting type), but eventually he took a swing at me, I ducked and countered with a right uppercut, which made him stumble backwards, then all of the sudden everything went blank, I don't know if I was knocked out or the adrenaline caused me to lose touch with real time. I came to wrestling with two guys in the middle of a side street next to the police sub-station downtown, I end up getting the full mount on of the guys (no homo) and as I'm landing my 4th or 5th good punch to his face, I feel my entire body tense up and I go into a seizure like shake, after what seemed an eternity it stops, so I try and get up to run, that's when I hear 'Get Down!', then a knee came across my back and my hands were ripped out and then forced behind my back, they stand me up and I realized I was just tasered. I ended up being the only one who went to jail that night.

Adrenalin sure is a funny thing. I trained in martial arts since I was 10 and was a fearsome sight when I was doing my patterns. Then I had my first amateur boxing match after high school and I looked like... well an amateur. It takes experience to control the adrenalin.

I am not proud to say it but I have had a few fist fights as an adult. Mostly back when I was in the military. That was a long time ago and I have grown up significantly since then. I would not 'fight' again but I would defend myself and my family or friends if I had to.

Luckily for me, I do not put myself in places where that is likely to take place :)

I operate two nightclubs so yeah, when things get out of hand I help out the security.

Last time I had a 1 on 1 fight was in a pizzaria after a club a few months ago. Some tattoed steroid douchebag cut the line in front of me and my employes and was really rude. I called him out on him he tried to jump me. I took two stepts back and jabbed him in the jaw, opened both lips open, it ended there. Guy came to the club next day to apologize, saying I taught him a life lesson.

I used to fight quite often when I was a teenager. Once while intoxicated I got my ass handed to me really bad . I had to eat out of a straw for 3-4 days. Beeing dumb and young I went on to fight this guy after high school again a few weeks later. He still whooped my ass. Until this day I never fought again unless threatened physically.

Oh and another one maybe a few months ago too. That one I was stupid, I could have taken them out with grapling instead of hitting them.

I asked some clients to leave as it was late and the club was close, many times. After 5-6 times I told them I'd get them escorted out if they didn't comply. There was 3 of them... but my security was nowhere to be found. One of them jumped me, I had to fight, managed to land a couple thai knees on a guy's face, when that happened the two others jumped me. Was really stupid in retrospect. I didn't get hit flush but it could have been a bad night for me.

Luckily my roommate was there, he's a heavyweight judoka who did many world championships and was in the olympic team, so we took them out quite easily.

Bold Venture 01-15-2011 06:11 PM

I operated night clubs and an after hour club in NY so needles to say had my share of fights, and being 5’5” tall was almost always the first to be approached by some drunk looking to make an impression. However all those fights proved to be my saving grace because one fight I had, (not sure if this would qualify as a fight) happened a few years later, when I was robbed at gunpoint in my home. Can’t believe I opened the door so easily but I did and was greeted by a guy chambering a 9mm and shoved it in my face.

Tried to stay calm as he pistol whipped me up the stairs, then he said ok where’s the money and gimme the chain. What fuckin chain? The one around your neck. Then I realized this is a nickel and dime thief and the prick is gonna kill me, (no mask) it was either make a move now or die here.

Fortunately I had few bucks on my entertainment center not far from where we were standing, they money was folded in half so it looked like a big wad of dough and he had the gun really close to my face. I figured if I could break eye contact for a split second, I would duck under the gun and come up with as hard a punch I could deliver then run for it.

As I was unclasping the chain I was planning my next move, then he shoves the gun further into my neck, I was like yea mother fucker, push it in more so you have less leverage to shoot.

Took the chain off, reached out my hand, here’s the chain and there’s the fuckin money
(Pointing). As soon as he reached for the money I ducked under the gun, said to myself if you ever threw a hard punch now’s the time and came up with right cross that knocked him over the couch. Ran as fast as I could, no shoes or shirt on, jumped 2 flights of stairs, broke my hand a foot doing so, but made it outside. True story, the guy is serving 20 years.
