Tell that to Sigmund Freud, Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Keith Richards, most of the artists, writers, and actors of the last 150 years, and in my own experience: Doctors, lawyers, politicians, district attorneys, judges, cops...all whom I've partied with at various times doing coke. And I might add: myself. I did cocaine for the first time in 1979. I still do it occasionally on a weekend night when I want to party. The result? I am more successful in my life than anybody I went to school with, anybody in my family, and pretty much anybody I know in my social life. I live in 5200 sq. foot home with a pool and a sport court and do whatever I want whenever I want.

Remember....for every person out there with an addictive personality who can't handle things and becomes "addicted", there are hundreds of thousands of people with normal physiology who CAN drink and have fun with recreational drugs without it becoming a dead end.

Heck, there are a lot more alcoholics out there than anything. But that doesn't mean that the BILLIONS of people who drink socially are all heading for a dead end. :)

It just means that there is a danger of it IF the genetic makeup of your body and mind lends itself to destructive addiction. And if that's the case...it doesn't matter what it is...a person who is like that is going to get hooked on SOMETHING. Probably prescription drugs in this day and age.

Hell, I much rather be who I am...a guy who every once in a while gets out and parties on the weekend and maybe does a few lines late at night while drinking...than to be one of the MILLIONS of people in the U.S. who are "functioning" everyday on synthetic highly addictive man-made prescription drugs.

You can't walk through a supermarket without bumping into people who are addicted to ritalin and ambien and oxycontin and addiral and whatever latest bullshit that the pharmaceutical companies have concocted to get people legally addicted to.

When I was a teen, we went to the "dope" guy and hoped we didn't get busted. Nowadays people go to the new "dealer" ...their doctor.

I read these "shocking stories" today...but I'm old school, and when I compare them to what rock stars did in the past it seems like nothing at all.

I mean...people are OUTRAGED that Lyndsay Lohan had a bit of cocaine and likes to drink and act stupid. Same thing with Charlie Sheen.

To me they are like amateurs compared to MY heroes: Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Motely Crue...etc.

All this "shocking" behavior would be a dull day for stars a few years ago. But I guess internet sensationalism and the "moral" conservative turn our country has taken over the last 30 years makes it seem so "bad" to the latest generations who are bored out of their minds because they've never done drugs or even fucked a girl without a condom.

At least that's my theory. In 1985 Lyndsay Lohan's behavior would have been considered pretty "normal" for a young hot looking girl with fame and money. And Charlie Sheen would have just been another playboy rich movie star. The papers didn't even bother to report that kind of thing.
